Hey NH guys, Hows the rate increase going to effect you when the electric company raises our rates the $40.00 to $50.00/month that the Public Utility Commission (PUC) okay'd the other day?  It's almost to the point where I'll have to see if a solar PV system is a cost effective option.  With the cost of my healthcare going through the roof and now this rate increase; I'll never be able to save enough money to retire.  If the petrolium company's don't take it (I'm still riding my motorcycle to work even if it's a bit chilly in the morning; it's much cheaper to operate), the electric company and my healthcare insurance will.  I feel better now.  Enough of my rant.  Roger

That really sucks.  Already I'm paying nearly $100.00/month.  This winter the bill will be over $150.00/month easy.  So much for energy saver bulbs.  Roger

Who you have for a power company?

Average for the farm is $250 a month for the single phase, thats the average, I do the budget plan to avoid those nasty surprises in the winter when 3 or 4 diesels with 1000 watt block heaters may be plugged in plus a couple of waterers for the livestock.

Most of the year the three phase is pretty low, if we aren't moving corn the only stuff running on three phase might be the 5hp air compressor, bridgeport, lathe, the wire welder and plasma cutter. Come harvest that changes drastically. 15hp motor on the grain leg, 7 1/2 hp on the dump pit, 15 hp fan on the dryer, 10hp motor to load the dryer, 20hp motor on the pneumatic grain mover, three 10hp aeration fans, six 5hp aeration fans and a whole slew of 1, 2, and 3 hp motors.

I have NH co-op.. My bill will be rising $12.47 for a member using 500 kWh per month..according to the newspaper , it's the increase of natural gas prices..Half of New England's electricity is produced from natural gas.. Until there's a natural gas pipeline to handle winter demands.. Then you'll see prices ease

I have no real opinions on this proposal..Really doesn't affect me on my backyard with power lines..Over the summer, friends had a discussion on this..They think it would be a non issue thing if the power wasn't coming from Canada..For example if they put a hydro power plant on the Connecticut Lakes in Pittsburg.. It probably would pass....But like you said I can see both sides or the argument....Would it really drop the price of power? I have no clue...

I think you may hit the nail on the head; some are looking at it as an import rather than something "home grown".  I have no idea if it will help lower the monthly bill. 

We have a local family in town who's nearly "grid free".  They have PV panels for the electricity and a passive solar system hooked up for their hot water needs.  Granted it's only a him and her in the house and no children so the demand probably isn't as great as it would be for a typical family of 4.  They are also trying to get an okay from the conservation committee and EPA to put a small hydro generator in the river which runs behind their home to help with the winter electrical needs.  When I have time I want to offer them a visit and what they have for a system.  They say anyone in town can stop in to have a look and they'll be happy to answer any and all questions.   Roger

That would be very interesting to see that hydro generator..About 20 yrs ago..My family were friends with a family who where just about off the grid as well..House ran off battery power and had the early version of solar power..Pretty interesting it was..

MattyNH - I haven't priced anything solar for the past couple of years but the price was not in my best financial interest.  I'll need to take another look to see if it makes sense for me to go solar.  Roger

Get everyone hooked on heat pumps and then raise the rates its the American way when you go to the poles to vote.  Vote for Nobody and Nobody won't let you down
