General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / conventional OWB
« on: December 27, 2021, 03:02:33 PM »
It's been about 12 years since I bought my Nature's Comfort 325 G...its been a solid investment. I easily saved $50,000 in oil bills. Sure, I've spent tons of hours handling wood, worked my equipment hard and had to fix some stuff I broke. It really has provided some savings, but more importantly, it has allowed me to keep the house as warm as we like while getting rid of dead and invasive trees.
I've experimented with all sorts of wood species and sizes, but for the first time in 12 years, I have not split a single piece of wood...every piece is bucked to a size an old man can pick up. It's been a mild winter, but I'm happy with the reults so far.  I'm so glad I don't have a gasser...it would never have burned 3/4 of the crappy wood I typically use. Once this OWB is finished, I'll be sad.

Electronics / Turn off blower
« on: December 12, 2018, 09:56:11 AM »
What’s the latest and greatest way to turn off the blower motor on my 325G when water temperature drops belong a certain point. Sometimes I’m lazy and don’t get to the fire in time and I’d like the blower to not blow cold air into the firebox.
I have a ranco aquastat.
Thanks.

I have a 275 ft of Rehau 1” going to a 80 plate heat exchanger. What speed should my Grundfos 26-99 run? I guess I need to measure return temps??

General Discussion / Fan issue
« on: November 19, 2018, 02:10:06 PM »
I have my old 325G back up and running. I removed the old 5 wrap and put in 275 feet of Rehau. So far, it seems to have made a big difference.
Only problem since the start up was a threaded pipe leak which caused the blower to get wet and trip the circuit breaker. I replaced it with an old fan I had on hand. It worked fine over night and is now tripping the breaker again. No sign of moisture, but not sure fan didn’t have problems before I installed it. Is there any the solonoid could cause this problem. Just want to be sure before I go buy a new fan tomorrow.
Is anyone else burning a conventional own?

« on: November 06, 2018, 07:27:30 AM »
My 325G has been sitting idle with no water in it for the last 2 years, but I’m ready to restart it.
I need to buy treatment for the water and curious if I need to prep boiler with anything since it been sitting so long?

What the hell happened to this site...it has no traffic, only a few experts and mostly Heatmaster discussions.
It used to be fun to read every day.

Advanced Electronics / what type of wire
« on: January 17, 2018, 11:05:40 AM »
I'm interested in burying some type of cable for monitoring purposes. Haven't decided what I'll use to monitor, but OWB is about 250ft from house. CAT 5 or 6? thanks.

An interesting overview of basement insulation...the physics applies elsewhere. Felt like 30 minutes well spent.

I had always wondered what exactly to do if I needed to leave the stove unattended while away during the heating season. Well, for the past four days I have been away in Florida (70's, by the way!) and I hadn't gathered enough small wood for my wife to load, so I thought I'd see if I could maintain the temps above freezing without having a fire while someone was home to monitor.

My indoor system is an oil fired boiler that I connect to my owb via a 80 plate heat exchanger. I closed the valves at the exchanger so heat was not exchanged and turned on the money-burning oil furnace.  The stove temperature bottomed out at 50F after 5 days of no heat with near 5F temps in the evening and 20's during the day. I now feel liberated knowing I don't need to have the stove babysat if I want to go out of town in the winter.

After seeing how much oil I used during those 5 days, I'm thankful to have the owb.
