ok I have pump problems again any ideas
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:06:17 AM »

This is the third pump in say 8 months of burning cause i don't run it year round. I took this one apart and found chunks of black grit stuck in plastic propeller the smaller pieces were bigger bit they broke on removal. It almost looks like black beauty sand blasting shot.

It don't suck off of the bottom of the tank so I don't know what it is, I'm def not crazy about broeders, if it still under warranty call nc and have them allow you credit on the armstrong e9 pump, it's a much better design, flows more water and uses well under half the electricity of the broeder.

Well, if it were mine I'd totally drain the entire system, rinse the tank out to the best pf my ability and go from there.  If your using wet rotor pumps that use the water for lubrication and cooling you'll likely continue to have the issue.   A filter may be a good idea as well

Does that stuff stick to a magnet? I wonder if the pump was magnetizing the rotor enough to pull iron out of the water. It wouldn't surprise me. Those pumps suck so much extra power, maybe they are make the magnetic field way too strong with it. I will have to try testing when I get time if it does stick to a magnet.

It would also explain why those pumps fail over and over some places and never do at other places. I know a place I had a couple fail at they said they had a lot of iron in their water. It was so bad they had to have a filter system installed just for iron.

Yep, I just recall a situation here, 3 broeders in a year

He went to a small grundfos and hasn't had issues yet "that I know of"  he was using well water with high iron

Wow, good thinking

I have a lot of iron in the water as well, but the water I used to fill it with was ran thru my house iron filter and water softner other wise the water turns red after about 15 minutes. I also have about 6 bottle of water treatment stuff in it. I am out of town this week will check the crap when I get back to see if it sticks to a magnet.  Do you think they didn't do a good job of cleaning the tank after manfacturing, and has crap left in it from then?

Sounds almost exactly the same as how the water is and how it was treated where I had the worst problem with those pumps.

How long is the warranty on the pumps on these? My dealer is about  douche I called him about these and said he was going to call them and see was going on but never calls back. Last year he quit answering the phone when I called. I tell people that ask me about unit I liked the unit but hate the dealer. I got hooked up with James vanhorn at NC been big help as well as this site

My original pump almost made 3 heating seasons; I did haul water from the city water plant instead of using my well water which is high in iron. I treat with NC recommended treatment and also pull water samples for a look every year. Samples are clear and I have very little iron residue in the filler neck. New pump is on the way from Scott now cause my current one is rattling like crazy!
