I seem to go through about 10 cord a year and I am about there now. I also burn pallets so its hard to get a good number when burning them, so 10 cord is a good guess. :-\

october to 3rd week in march, burned 10 cords. i have racks under my carport. each hold a cord. that way i know what my use is. front part of my woodmaster sits under the carport. all steel,no fire. out of the weather to load.

sounds like you have a nice set up. can you post a picture of the racks?

adamant, i'll get some pics on here, of my racks, as soon as i figure out what i have to do to download them. just a simple rectangle . 16 inches wide by 12 feet long. one 6 foot upright at each end. drilled a hole at top and run a cable or rope thru. cut all my wood 24 inches long. gives you an easy cord. next step is pallets. forks for the tractor.stack it and forget it. move with the tractor. handle it once. 8)

I have 10 cords of different kinds of slab wood. I am hoping to get at least 8 cords of hardwood over the next month. I burn my boiler all year round. Last winter I ran out, never again.

What brand of OWB do you use?

I average 10 cords here in Upstate NY. I have been burning pallets mostly for the last 2 seasons as the wood is free and I do not have my own wood lot. 6 seasons now with my OWB. I only use it from appr. mid October to early April. need a break in the warm months to enjoy the swimming pool i put in with the money i saved from not buying oil.

I'd say 10 cords is a fair guess for mine, too. I don't even stack my wood-just lump it in a pile. A lot of what I burn is pretty sketchy stuff in the first place so nice neat stacks would be a waste of time. Cut, haul, split, toss, burn. No muss, no fuss. I rarely cut wood in the summer because you can't bale hay in the winter, so I deliberately run the pile down in the spring and clean up the area around the furnace (cut weeds, etc) through the summer, then start cutting wood again as I get time. Might seem odd to a lot of people but it works for me. I don't run the furnace at all in the summer.

It is hard to figure isn't it? ???
It's a lot lot more than you could ever imagine though, isn't it! :o
I figure (and I'm burning mostly fall down and thinings, softwood - spruce & fir), 1 cord every 8 days!! :bash:
Thank God it's not costing me anything, that's all I can say!
How many of us ever got a straight answer on this when we were buying our OWB? ::)
It's alot of work, but it pays well for an extra job and good for the tree lot, so I carry on!!

i burn about 8 to 12 cords (cord = 4x4x8) and that is a fair estimate for most folks
that should heat your domestic water and your home

I load 44" diameter X 27" high X 40" long (on average), twice daily!
This equates to approx 19 cf per load or roughly 40 cf per day.
Therefore, one cord of wood (128 cf) will last 3.2 days. Let's just say I burn 2 cords per week for most of the heating season.
Nov 1.0 cord/wk = 4 cords
Dec 1.5 cord/wk = 7 cords
Jan 2.0 cord/wk = 8 cords
Feb 2.0 cord/wk = 8 cords
Mar 1.5 cord/wk = 7 cords
Apr 1.0 cord/wk = 4 cords
Total 38 cords?? :bag:
I burn mostly poorly seasoned (50% green) medium quality (thinnings, dead-wood, blow-down, waste) softwood (spruce, fir ). :-\
When well below freezing I mix in varying amounts of seasoned hardwood (yellow birch, red maple).

leaky..any wood you burn that is green is not worth burning...if youare really burning 50 % green you are loosing 50% of the btu's in the wood to boil the moisture our of the green wood so it will in fact burn
so if you are burning 38 cords of green wood you could cut that by at least 1/3 by burning only well seasoned wood (i say one third because dry wood is figured at 20% moisture)
DRY WOOD IS A MUST for every good reason there is
