Hey guys had a ? I have been putting off building a owb and I'm going to do it this summer? What do u think about putting fire brick in half the fire box or just not put anything in it?

My firebox is completely lined with firebrick, however it is not really a conventional barrel in a barrel design.   Heat transfer takes place in fire tubes above the firebox.  I wanted the fire to burn hot, and hopefully smoke less with more complete combustion.

I plane on a fire box begin in the shape of a upside down tear drop and I was going to put brick about halfway up the fire box! Hope that makes sense! Thanks

Makes perfect sense.  In the home built world, your only limited by your imagination.  And no matter what build you eventually come up with, in the back of your mind you will be thinking about design 1.1

I'm curious about the reason for your design of the upside down teardrop, you do realize that it will be a major issue with bridging?

I don't think its going to have  a good slope and there is about 12inch between the sides at the ash pan!
