General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Draft testing
« on: January 07, 2019, 12:12:55 AM »
I was testing how to burn slabs most efficient way.. what could I put over the old pex Al pex in case flames shoot back thru fan . I can't move the pex it's incased in polyurethane from old boiler install . Could I just cover it with thick wrap of aluminum foil? Or something different. I think if it back draft it just be flash flames .. right now I got the 36x54x28 firebox gasifying it fills whole boiler with rose Color flame.
But at below 0f I need to start covering the back draft fan to slow down the chimney heat. When it starts gasifying water temp gos up fast . Burning 13.9% average oak slabs ..

On heatmor 200 SS it has a white insulation around chimney in back does anyone know what kind it is to take that kind of heat ?
Also I ordered a total of 16 ft of silicone hose 1.12 id it's the $10 a foot style has anyone had any issues using silicone hose in there system . Where back working on project that didn't get done last year lol

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Average temp you keep your house.
« on: February 17, 2018, 02:54:44 PM »
I was reading in a Minnesota heat cost forum . People burning LP and natural gas. Keep there house 62f and 67f when there home .
Lot said 68f and 72f if they have company .I'm starting to think
Woodboiler guys just like a warm house. I Target 72-74F myself
. That's why you hear these natural gas guy says only cost $150 month. It's because they have super insulated house and keep it 62f lol. What temp do you keep your house when your home ?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / water temp drop math average .
« on: February 07, 2018, 08:56:42 PM »
My temp drop on average is 27.5 degrees .. I know it's going to take
11 cord of slabs for season . So I can say every 2.5 degrees of temp drop is 1 cord of oak slabs per season . There has to be a more technical way to put this. But that's exactly how my systems working.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / example of disappearing slabs
« on: January 12, 2018, 04:41:07 AM »
Ok 12 hours high -6 low -21 f It took 400 lbs of slabs at about 20-30 % moisture 6600 sqft heating temp inside range 50-76f
to average across the board is 63f inside . Is that about the best a outdoor boiler can do . am I in the ball park range . I been
trying different drafting on the boiler and Im finding out its a big changer how boiler burns slabs . Its like you have to guess best
drafting to wood moisture To get longer burns and keep stack temp down but high enough to keep inside warm . I betting if I have
temp sensors on the boiler at stack . It could take alot of mystery out of it . This must be what brings on the x300 temp sensor controller to see what exactly its doing .

Plumbing / tape on copper pipe..
« on: November 08, 2017, 02:26:37 AM »
I called to manufacturers of tape to use on insulation on 1 inch copper. Now 2 engineers told me that tape can only touch insulation.
And don't let it touch the copper because the tape will react with the copper. A third company even makes an adhesive that's a liquid that you can put between the insulation seams. I'm putting insulation on a pipe that I got to push through 80 feet of insul seal the chances of that insulation coming off and the tape might rest against the copper so instead I'm going to use a kind of Zip Strip Velcro to hold insulation in place. Has anyone ever heard of different adhesive tapes reacting with copper. New to me.

Plumbing / straighting 1 inch soft coil k copper 80 feet +
« on: November 07, 2017, 04:16:52 AM »
Does anyone have any tips on easy way to get it straight I need to put it thru 80 feet of insulseal ( like 4 inch sewer pipe ) my first idea is 2 straight 2x6s with 2x4 across the top and slowly uncoil it
Straighter I can get it easyer to push it thru .. after I get it straight it gets that 1 inch copper insulation put on it before fishing thru insulseal 4 inch pipe. Insulation 2 reasons keep from damaging copper when sliding it thru and then just added insulation value . Im going to use electrical tape to secure thin copper insulation in place . My total insulation value with everything should be over R 20 . Any pointers on straighting would be highly appreciated.

Plumbing / copper and stainless side arm
« on: October 28, 2017, 02:30:28 AM »
I have a stainless steel side arm and I was wondering whats the best material union to use copper
does copper and stainless steel react at all ? its all pipe threads .
Heat550
I seen some strange reaction on my old steel pipe to brass for some reason . 19 years I could not brake any of the threads on steel pipe and brass valves it was like stuck to point you destroy the valve trying to get it apart so I changed it all to brass on new install $$$

Plumbing / Has this topic been covered ? Trench heat loss
« on: October 17, 2017, 12:34:06 AM »
If you had 100 ft of line in the ground and you were loosing 1 degree . 500x7.5x1=3750 BTUs (7.5 GPM) and your boiler was 50% efficient ( some are more ) . That's over a pound of 20% oak per hour
24 lbs of oak a day . 168 lbs a week 2688 lbs 16 weeks in a Minnesota winter just for the trench. can anyone prove my math wrong ?
So over a 1/2 cord of oak at 20 % Just for trench heat loss .
I think this should be on the notes of testing heat loss specs . and what GPM and what temp there testing it at . I'm seeing lot of smoke and mirrors on trench insulation values .
