Portage & Main / Anyone's ultimizer doing this?
« on: February 17, 2016, 07:10:55 PM »
Went to feed the fire the other morning and was pretty surprised. The caulk around the ash pan door was turned into dust. Everything seemed to be working fine, and still is. Now when the fan is on, I can feel the air blowing out around the the opening. Not thru the door.

Plumbing / In floor heat??
« on: August 07, 2015, 03:05:37 PM »
Getting ready to run per thru my joist bays for radiant on the main floor. I was gonna use ultra-fin, then the guy that is going to help me said he had heard not good things about it. He said he likes to do a light poor-over and put it on top. Too late for that!!  He suggested using 2 pipes per bay with aluminum plates. Looking for suggestions/advice/experience. Thanks.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / I got scared
« on: April 08, 2015, 08:35:32 PM »
Went out to tend the fire the other day. It was very windy. My burner is under a 40x60x12 3 sided shed. So wind is usually not a bother. The fan was off so I opened the ash door to empty the ashes. It was pretty full.  Everything was cool. Stuck my ash pan in for a scoop, Pulled it out to dump it in the wheelbarrow. Fresh air came in from underneath and I thought the stove was gonna fly away. It stared vibrating the flapper and making all kinds of crazy.  I didn't even have time to dump the ashpan. I set it down and shut the door.  I then cracked the loading door to let the air equalize. Opened the ash door again and it did the same thing. Scared the *^%# out of me. I shut the doors and said I'll come back later.
I've had the blowback a couple times so I'm always slow and cautious when opening the doors. Never had anything like that happen before.

Equipment / Flat tires
« on: February 02, 2015, 06:28:00 PM »
My cuttin buddies skid steer has two flat front tires. It has rubber tracks over the tires. His track-stretching tool is broke. We could get the tire off, but if we did we couldn't get it back on. We tried straps, we made a few attempts of ether but no luck. Looking for any suggestions. Maybe it is just a case of MORE ETHER!
