 Ready to build the door for my outdoor wood and coal  boiler. It will be 22x22 1/4" plate 4" thick. What is  the best way to insulate it? If I use ceramic , do I use a couple layers of 2" ceramic blanket or some other type?
       Not familiar with using refractory-If this is the way to go lead me thru the process (how to mix and apply.)

Why not a water filled? There not that much more work and it's that much more area your heating the water. Just my 2 cents

If your building a non gasifier on the boilers i've built I made an air cooled door. Place your dampers in the door, have it go up the outside, over an internal baffle and out the bottom on the inside. Don't make it any thicker than you have to or condensation becomes an issue as the door will stay too cool.

I found this site as the boiler I'm going to start on next will be a gasifier as I'm getting just old enough I don't want to cut any more wood than absolutely required and hate to see my hard work go up in smoke.
