Wood tally
« on: March 03, 2017, 06:32:05 PM »

Checked out my supply today, gotta say I am quite surprised. Started the burning year with 29 full cords and only 15 left and the season is not over. :bash:

How many times per day do you load your stove?

Ouch, I think I ran that much thru the G400 last year. You guys have had some really frigid weather up that way though, our coldest all winter was -13.

I'm pretty busy for the next couple of weeks but when I get back I would like to take a close look at your stove, I know you said earlier that you seemed to be burning a lot of wood , something isn't right.
Do you have a good stack temp gauge you could slide into the stack just above the breach?

It is hard to say if it is a lot of wood without knowing what is being heated.

I lit our boiler about mid October and I can say we have burned 5 cord as of today. I have 3+ left so I would say going into March we should be good. I would love to see what our g-200 could do if our house had insulation or decent windows.

Approximately 3800 sq ft very well insulated farmhouse. 1100 sqft shop well insulated, with radiant.
40 ft run too shop, 80 ft run too house, Logstor too both.

Huh, if it was anything but Logstor I’d be saying check for heat loss in your underground lines…..

I'm heating 2800 sqft 220 year old house with decent insulation. Just cleared 6 cords heating since October 22. 14 cords is pretty nutty with that heat load. I'm not sure if it's even possible to water log xps insulation. I think I would put a hour meter on each of your systems and see where your heat is going. The logstor isn't stealing it. X2 on the stack temp measurement too to see if your blowing the heat out the stack.

I think I am at around 5-6 cords (~75% red oak, 25% boxelder) since the beginning of December. before that I burned a bundle of slabs and other unstackable wood that I had built up. I really didn't notice any difference in wood usage when I switched from the G200 to the G100.

I still have home made lines from about 14 years ago which I am not sure how good they are. I used 1" Kitec put 3/8" pipe insulation on it and then wrapped with one layer of 3/8" bubble foil insulation. Then put in 3" drain tile and wrapped the outside with sheet plastic and taped the seam. They run about 150'
The supply and return pipes are in separate drain tiles.

I am thinking about putting in PerformaFlex Ultra or Rehau Insulpex pipe this year but would have to move the boiler because it would be too hard to run in the existing pipe path.

I think I'm at about 7 cords mixed hardwood in my G100. A smidge more than last year. Colder I think.

But I'm heating way more than a G1 should handle. Runs it wide open a lot.

Doesn’t sound like its in the stove then, can you check supply and return temps on each run to at least narrow down whats pulling that much load?
