CB prim. air intake
« on: March 06, 2017, 04:49:12 AM »

My E-2400 is in the fifth season with only a few problems, however I've just ordered the primary air intake elbow.  The present unit has rotted away and developed a hole in the bottom, which I put tape on to control air intake.  Anyone else have this problem, I'm assuming this is from the repeated creosote  build up which I clean once a month..  Thank you

Anywhere you have mild steel and continuous moisture that problem will tend to happen. I'm not very familiar with that particular model but my guess is it'll do it again unless it's stainless.

Trailmaster - I had to swap mine out for a new one on my 1400 after last season.  It had rotted through.  Like you, mine accumulates creosote, even after cleaning it monthly and it still rotted through.  When I can get my hands on some stainless steel, I plan on making one and replacing the mild steel one.  Roger

If you replace it you could paint the inside of the new one with a good hi temp enamel frame paint a couple of times to keep it from degrading as fast.

Thank you all for the comments and advice.  I will give it a couple of coats of the stove paint before I install.  Thanks again, you folks all have such great knowledge, what a great  resource.  Trail master!!!

Hi everyone. I am new to this site. I am a central boiler dealer in Ohio. I don't claim to know everything but I will try to help out if I can.  Central boiler does offer a stainless steel primary elbow. Check out our site at Ohiowoodfurnaces.com and go to the parts at the top of the page. Insert part number 1200487. Make sure to read the description to make sure it will work for your furnace.

stryker - Welcome and thanks for the info on the stainless elbow for the CB units.  I'll be checking with my dealer to see if he has them in stock.  Roger
