German heritage/ information
« on: March 12, 2017, 12:21:12 PM »

As some of you guys know, I'm helping to pack up my mother in law from Florida to move back to Maine, we have come accross some very old stuff from back in the first and Second World War that I'm interested to find out more about, some medals and such, if there is any advise on how I can find out about it I would appreciate it very much and NO none of it is for sale.

Google for starters or any museum worth their salt should be able to get you connected with the right people.

I’m somewhat of a WWII buff but more of the American and British kinda stuff. Snap a few pics and do an image search on Google. Or snap a few and post em here if you don’t mind, maybe somebody else will recognize what they are seeing. I know some German as well, better at reading it than speaking it actually, I’m working on rectifying that, someday I’d like to go to Oktoberfest and order a proper german bier in passable German.

You would be amazed at what some of the living WWII vets can tell you.

My neighbor is 92, was on a mighty midget in the Pacific (look them up).  Sweeper would cut mines loose, then they'd shoot them. Ran into a mine and that got missed but it was a dud. Whew!!

I worked for him stacking square bales on a wagon when I was in my teens, he could do as well as me and was in his 70's. Farmed til his upper 80's.
