Does this add to the amount of deposits in the stove?  I have topped mine off in the past I also wonder if I should do it or not.  Just tested my water and have about 1000ppm of nitrates and a ph of roughly 7.2

What do you guys recommend for nitrate levels in a mild steel unit.  1000 or 1500?  I've heard 500 is acceptable but have been told 1500 is best and also have been told to keep it around 1000. I have never gotten a straight answer.  The manual says minimum of 500 and that's all it says.
My understanding is that the nitrate # is for residual nitrates, basically what is left over after doing it's job. So as long as it doesn't get too low there is a range that is Ok. The higher the # the longer it is til you need to add. At some point it could get so high that I've heard it can damage impellers on pumps.
Just what I've gathered.

I’ve read the same somewhere else, too high of nitrites is like running grit thru the pump, I have no issues believing that. Roundup is actually horribly abrasive, will eat a standard spray pump up pretty quick.

Good to know.  I have been trying to keep mine around 1000ppm in spring for shut down and then again I bump it up to 1500 for the winter again.
