LED's are too long for the enclosure. I opted for 60W soft white bulbs. They won't be on all the time anyway.

Clear or frosted 60W is 60W. Heat difference should be negligible. 40W Clear may be a good idea!

Sam's Club has the LED bulbs that fit the CL5036.  I did exchange the ones that came with my unit since I am off-grid solar and they work fine with plenty of light and virtually no consumption of power.  LED's as a rule are more directional, but when it is pitch black, they provide a very white light.

I saw those bulbs at Sam's Club yesterday. A two pack was about $20 I think. They were only 2.5W though. Not sure if they are equivalent to a 40W incandescent. I think you need 4 to 5 watts of LED to be equivalent to the 40W incandescent.

No, you are right, they are not equivalent in lumens to 40W "heat lamps".

I just put up a 12' 4x4 PT pole with a standard house spot light like the ones that are normally mounted to your eves.....it has a double light set. I tapped a wire from my boiler elec feed to the pole, through a switch, and I have all the light I could ever need. Not expensive, not much work to do.
I also have my boiler feed on a ground fault breaker (for hot tub heating safety) and everyone know's how "touchy" they are for tripping and have never had an issue.

dirtyryder- Great idea as I've thought about doing the same thing. I was thinking putting a street light (low wattage) with a light sensor, now that I have a webcam going. This way you can keep an eye on my OWB while I'm sleeping.

This is just a follow-up.

I installed a dusk to dawn light last night, powering off the OWB feed. I put the 12-2 wire in plastic pipe and buried it. The unit is on a 20 AMP breaker, so the addition of the light should have little effect of operation. It's 100W.
