Crown Royal / Re: Boiler Room Set-Up

Thanks for the info.  I am hoping to take a look at both this summer and make a choice if I can sell my 5 year old NC175.

You have had a g200 and a crown pristine. These 2 are my top 2 choices for replacing my natures comfort.  I know the crown you have is bigger but how would you compare wood consumption between the 2 and the build quality?  Thanks.

Regulations / Change out bill

Just saw this. What are the chances it goes through? Wish it would, I want to upgrade to a more efficient boiler in the next year or two.

Any updates on if the efficiency testing has been done on these?  I see on the EPA list for hydronic heaters there are RS7200E, RS7300e, and RS7400# listed but I am guessing that is the older models.  I am debating updating my NC175 with a newer boiler in the next year or 2 and have these on my short list of choices between the polar and heatmaster.

Plumbing / Re: 5 Wrap vs Logstor/Thermopex??

Whats the best way to measure the temp difference between the boiler and the house without spending a bunch of money on probes?  I have always wondered how much I am loosing.  I have the 5 wrap and have had some damn chipmunks dig holes near my line and I always worried they got into it.

I have the same boiler as you and the guy who installed mine put some tin around the base to cover it up.  Looked pretty easy to do when he did it but he brought the pieces already pre-cut.

I wondered how they got my work email.  You are probably right about them getting it from here.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Softened Water
« on: March 24, 2017, 12:56:40 PM »
What's everyone think about using softened water in an OWB?  My dealer told me it was best if you used it but I didn't have one when we hooked it up.  I have since installed one and have been using it to top it off when needed.  I just got an email from Hawken support and they stated not to use softened water.

I use the  "ET-71os Maverick WIRELESS/Remote Smoker/BBQ Dual Readout Probe Thermometer" hooked up the same way as the previous reply.  I see it is only $20 on ebay right now.  I just leave it on the main floor not too far from the sending unit and it seems to work.

Natures Comfort / Re: More burn time

Ive seen similar results.  I think having the ash higher up makes the smoke work a little harder to get out the chimney with more time to possibly gasify.  I have recently been thinking about trying to add some grates to keep the bigger chunks of coal from falling into the ash pan.
