That was interesting, makes me want one. How often does that refractory crumble apart?

I personally haven’t had an issue with a refractory…yet. They are considered a wear item though, I tell people to be gentle with em. If bull in a china shop is how your oft described the useful life of the refractory or nozzle may be considerably shorter.

I think that is something that will be continually addressed. Anytime you have a wear item you need to how it wears and then make adjustments. You need to run these things long enough to get a pattern of wear and determine the  weakest point and then see if there is a way to make that more durable. I expect replacements to get stronger over the years.

I haven't looked for a long time but in our book I'm showing $340 to $1300 for the bottom horseshoe brick, $420-$900 for the whole top nozzle sections. They're not cheap but so far we've never sold one. Have had a couple G100 customers who cracked the front corners of the horseshoe but so far very little issues with any refractory.

I just try and be careful never to mess with any of the brick right after a cycle when its really hot. I try and do all my maintenance and such when the stove is cold

Good point, I should emphasize that to our customers.
