Anyone Have Tall Chimney Pics?
« on: October 24, 2011, 12:35:49 PM »

I have a Hardy H2 that I would like to extend the chimney on.  It comes out of the top instead of the rear like some other units. It also uses single wall pipe instead of double.  Anyone have any pics of chimneys that have been raised?  Any ideas how to make extend it without harming the wife's eyes?
Thanks!

You will want to use double wall pipe if you extend it more than a couple feet. Otherwise it will get a lot of creosote built up.

Here's another pic.. 12 gauge stainless steel wire attached to turn buckles at the boiler then  a chimney attachment ring near the top of the stack which I got from a Central Boiler Dealer

Matty you must have had to build a staging to get that chimney in place.
Did use a staging to a certain point..Other than that it was put up in one piece..

MattyNH;

If your name indicates the state in which you reside, I too live in NH.  It's a small town not too far from the Connecticut River about 15miles south east of Hanover, NH (Dartmouth College area) the town is called Enfield.

I see you say you burn between 8&9 cord of wood a year.  How many square feet are heating?  I'll be heating approx. 1000 square feet of a house built in 1840 with the Central Boiler E1400 Classic.

Roger2561,
             Yes I do live in New Hampshire.. I know where exactly where Enfield..Up off of Interstate 89..Was working in Lebanon all last week..Square footage Im heating is 1800 plus hot water 7 months out of the year, and the house is 75F all winter.. Also my basement is warm because of the hot pipes running from the wood boiler to the oil furnace.. I got a friend of mine that lives in a house that is built in the 1700's...Wall studs are like 2x3's or something like that..Pretty much paper is the insulation..He goes through about 13-15 cord a season.. Is this your first time heating with the E-Classic?..Ive seen them around and at the dealer in Dover....Never seen one up close running.. Only in the distance..

LOL!!  You have one of those as well?  When I told my wife I was going to build a firewood storage shed she "demanded" to see plans of any sort that i had...it will NOT look ugly dear.

Good luck with your search.  I'm quite certain these guys on here will help you out...great lot of knowledge on here.
