Hey all,  I have a question,  I drain and flush/refill my outdoor boiler and add boiler treatment every heating season before initial start up.  My question is how many of you purge the air out of your water lines?  Also if you do how do you go about it?  Thanks.

Fire Wood / question on cutting on shares
« on: September 10, 2018, 08:59:21 AM »
Hello all,  My neighbor had roughly 100 trees taken out by loggers and give me all the tops.  It's mostly red oak.  I was going to try to find someone to cut on shares.  I was curious how cutting on shares works?  Load for load, two to one etc?  Thanks all.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / input wanted on workshop heater
« on: January 09, 2017, 12:22:28 PM »
hello all,  I wanted some input on my workshop heater.  Right now I have a hanging heater in my 30'x30'x10' workshop and although it does a good job keeping it warm here in the northern Michigan winter I was wondering if I dropped it down closer to the floor how much more warmth would I get out of it.  The nice thing about it's current location is it's up out of the way.  Also is better units out there for heating my work space.  One thing I have to look at is I already have this unit.  Thanks everyone.

Plumbing / question on hanging heat exchanger in barn
« on: October 07, 2015, 04:54:14 PM »
hello all,  I have a 100,000 btu hanging heat exchanger in my workshop and I have a question about the feed and return lines.  Does it matter how I hook up the lines to the hanging unit?  What I mean is which line goes on the top or bottom hook ups on the hanging unit?  Thanks all.

Hello all,  I am wanting opinions on how to join two sections of this pipe together.  My water lines run through this pipe into my workshop and I had to take it apart to run new lines.  I need to attach two sections of this pipe and the joint will be slightly underground.  They made a rubber membrane adhesive wrap at one time to wrap the joint but I do not know if they are still available.  Any opinions on best way to attach these together.

Hello,  I have a workshop that has concrete block walls and need some advice on running my water lines.  Right now I am in the process of insulating the block walls and I have a hanging heat unit mounted in the middle of the shop.  My water lines(1" plastic pex tubing) come in on the bottom of one wall.  and run to the hanging unit.  My question is how does everybody else have there similar system set up or how would you run this set up.  Thanks in advance.

Plumbing / Question about my shop set up and elbows?
« on: April 30, 2015, 10:10:37 PM »
Hey all,  I have a question about my shop set up and the amount of elbows I want to use.  I have a hanging heating unit in my shop and my stove is about 20-25 ft. from my shop and about 80 ft. from my house.  My water lines come into my shop(just above the floor) and run about 40 ft. to my heating unit(along the walls).  I would like to run them along the wall a little more "neater" for lack of better words.  This would require me to install 4 elbows in the lines to tuck them in tight to the walls.  Is this going to be ok?  If not what is the better way or what do I have to do to use these elbows?  thanks all.

Just curious how often are you guys filling your owb during these extremely cold days and nights?  Also how much average size wood do you load at one time?

Why do I keep seeing these foreign posts?  isn't this spam?  Also it makes no sense at all to take up space and crowd the forum. Thanks.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Underground piping
« on: December 20, 2013, 12:30:23 PM »
Hi everyone again,  I am also curious about what kind of instillation everyone used when they installed there underground pex lines?  I have mine installed in a insulated pvc pipe which is a smaller pvc pipe inside a larger pvc pipe with rigid foam insulation between the two pipes.  I believe the brand is urecon.  The pipes have a male and female joint and then a butylene "Band-Aid" on all the joints for water proofing.  Thanks all.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / going the distance??
« on: December 20, 2013, 11:55:41 AM »
Hi all,  I was just curious,  What is the distance between your OWB.  and your building or dwelling you are heating?  I have a Woodmaster 4400 heavy duty and it is about 90-100 feet from my house and about 20 feet from my barn.  Thanks all.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / new member with question
« on: December 12, 2013, 01:08:39 AM »
Hi all,  I am a new member(posted below).  I have a question about shutting down stove in winter.  My wife and I leave for a few days to visit family over xmas and I have my neighbor feed my stove while we are gone( he has a owb also).  I am just concerned that if he cannot feed my stove for some reason can I let the fire burn out until we get home?  I have a forced air gas furnace as a back up and was wondering if I let it go out will it be alright? Will the taco pumps circulating the water keep the water from freezing?  My stove also runs too a hanging heater in my barn(separate pump and lines).  Will the water running into the house and back keep the water warm enough to keep it from freezing.  has anybody else had to shut their stove down for a short period during cold weather?  Thanks all in advance.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / New member from north central Michigan
« on: December 11, 2013, 09:52:28 PM »
Hi everyone,  I am a new member from north central Michigan.  I have had a woodmaster 4400 heavy duty stove for about 7 years or so and I live on ten acres of mixed hardwoods.  I actually had my acreage select cut and took the money from the timber and put towards my stove which then gave me about 50 tops to process and burn.  The tops were enough to last about two years or so.  Once I got my stove paid for I started buying my wood by the semi load and cutting dead or gull trees off my property to supplement my firewood supply.  It is a lot more convenient to have a semi load sitting next to the stove to process.  I figure fI save enough over propane that I can buy some wood.   This looks like a great and informative site.
