Mosquitoes
« on: May 25, 2018, 02:37:21 PM »

I need to do something about the mosquitoes at my house. Thinking about trying one if those e mosquito magnet things. Does anyone use one and if so, does it do any good?
Are there any better options?

This is what I use at home, we have a state park across the road and they are alway busy little bees making new mud holes, er mosquito breeding grounds, actually they call em wetlands.

It really does work, don’t be cheap, change the bulbs and lures per manufacturers recommendations. Some mornings you can’t even see the internals from all the dead skeeters. I use a leaf blower every morning to clean it.

I've been thinking about getting something like this... it is completely waterproof right?  I don't have to worry about rain storms right?

If your expecting severe storms with high winds they recommend taking it down. Ours is hanging off a six foot post, so even the wife can take it down.

But it's just high winds that they suggest taking it down for right? For fear of getting knocked down... It will handle all sorts of rain right?

Would there be any problem leaving it a week between cleaning?

I imagine the effectiveness would go way down as the dead skeeters will block the grid from the live ones and also block the light.

Nothing but skeeters frying.

I just ordered one. I guess will see how it works out.

I am guessing I would need at least 3 or 4 of them to put a dent in my mosquito population.

We have the one about 15 feet from the back porch, you can sit on the porch and not get bit once or maybe twice in 30 minutes or so while the whole time the zapper is just going nuts.

I put it up today and the mosquitos won't go near it. I was standing in a cloud of them right next to it. I didn't see one get zapped all day. Hopefully it works after dark but I am not there at night so not sure it will do any good.

I will probably try moving it to a few different places but looks like I need to go back to looking at the mosquito magnets.

You’re kidding? Used the bait pack and everything?

Could be in daylight the internal lights aren’t bright enough to attract em.

It looked like it had only killed some moths.
I apparently had it too high off the ground. I lowered it down so it is about 8" off the ground and it is killing some mosquitos. They seem to like sitting on the outside more than actually going in and getting zapped. When I went out to check it, they all swarmed off it and came after me.

Ours is only about 6 foot off the ground, any higher and the wife would need her footstool to get it down.
