Title: Somebody please explain this to me
Post by: slimjim on April 30, 2014, 06:21:02 PM
A very light rain just started about 20 minutes ago, two different pours of the concrete happened many years ago around my OWB, one section is the oldest pour and the newest is maybe 5 years old, why is the older potion very wet on the surface and the newer portion appears to be dry on the surface. I'm sorry guys but it's one of those things that baffle me as the crete is supposed to be the same mix and IS from the same crete company, just thinking, I know I shouldn't do that but anyway it happened tonight.

Was the new pour sealed with something like Cure-n-seal?

Nothing has ever been sealed, I happened to walk outside tonight in my stocking feet and noticed it while exersizing that liberty that we more than likely all enjoy after a few adult beverages, and i thought perhaps somebody could ponder better than I

I've heard before over floating can cause it to look different, basicly maybe just a slightly different finishing technique? I'm not concrete expert though.

If neither was ever sealed with a spray on seal after the pour, the only variable can be the floating/ finishing on either, unless the curing process was slower/ quicker on one compared to other.

Either way, the only thing I've learned in a whole bunch of years of concrete work is that it will get hard and crack.  Just have to make it crack where you want it to...

It has to come down to finishing technique.

Just enough to make me not want to wait for the 2 baths in the house to empty out and the rain felt nice as well. pondering becomes much more in depth after 4:20, don't you think?

Do you know what the mixes were for the two?  Different mixes will absorb water at different rates as well.

They were supposed to be the same, 3000 lb mix, same company, perhaps 2-3 years apart on the pour.
