New door gasket Info
« on: April 11, 2017, 02:29:04 PM »

Hey all, I'm wanting to get a new door gasket for next season.  I would like to get some links or info on where to go to get exactly what I need for the best deal, and maybe tips as I have never changed one.
I'm guessing I'll need some sort of high temp silicon to hold it in, which I was planning on using whatever's let over to fix a little spot around wear my chimney pipe comes out threw my roof, a little spot of the silicon has peeled up and don't want it to get worse wear water may be able to get down in there to my insulation.  Thanks

Dodds Bros in Missouri has the 1" rope that fits a C250. Best deal I know of. I posted a video on YouTube on how to change rope. Google "replacing firerope on a Heatmaster"
The C250 tank is stainless so moisture isn't an issue. But a fresh bead of silicone would seal water out over the summer. I use regular stuff at Lowe's. High temp is available on Amazon or from your dealer.

Thansk for response,  you don't need silicon to hold gasket in place?

Have you ever had any problem with just using normal silicone to hold the rope in? I have always used the high temp stuff but if it works ok, I might switch over to save a few dollars.

I put plenty of the regular in and never had one come loose unless you stretch the rope thin.

Another alternative and I did this on my waste oil boiler, make your own silicone rope gasket.

Get yourself some one inch rope gasket and some high heat silicone. I just pick up a caulk tube of Permatex red.

Place a bead of silicone in the door channel after you clean it. To get a superior gasket work as much silicone into the rope as possible, place a glob in one hand then work it into the rope, keep repeating until the rope has as much silicone as possible in it. Place into the door channel, then squeeze more silicone onto the rope and use a putty knife to work smooth. Place waxed paper over the silicone then close the door lightly to leave a small impression. Prop door open for at least 24 hours to dry, 48 is preferable.

DO NOT wear the silly latex mechanics gloves, to get the best possible seal you must become one with the silicone….

I became one with spray glue and expanding foam a while back, had the gloves on even, answered the cell after I took em off, forgot to put another pair on, got both in the glue and expanding foam, was reinsulating a cattle waterer.

Had a viewing to go to that afternoon of course, still have foam on my fingernails   :(
