Had a blinker
« on: December 17, 2017, 06:04:51 AM »

Those red lights are very bright in the dark, wife woke me up at 5 am said there was a light blinking on boiler.  Those are a good idea.

What's the significance of the blinking red light?  I don't have that on the CB unit.  Roger

Low water temp cut out. Water temp below 140, the boiler has gone into shut down mode because it is out of wood and tries to save the water temp. Last night was cold here for sure. On 20 degree nights my boiler fires every 2.5 hours or so.  Last night it was cycling every 1 hour and 40 mins as you can see by the charts below. That means I was using around 19,500 btus an hour. Way up from my normal 13,000 or so on 20 degree nights.

Honda.... two questions, where are you getting your temp feed from? And how did you hook up a WiFi sensor?

That’s awesome! I want one.

I bought this. http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/lascar/data-loggers/wifi-data-loggers//wifi-temperature-probe-data-elwifitp.htm

I zip tied the probe to the return line back to the boiler. I only have a thermowell out at the boiler on the boiler lines and I didn't think that the wifi would be consistent out there so I just zip tied it inside the house. This shows me every time the house calls for heat because the return temp will dip and also shows when the boiler cycles. It reads 5 degrees low but is consistent so you always know the real temp. It has been up and running for three weeks now. It is cloud based so you can access the sensor and graph for anywhere with an Internet connection. Lascar also has an app which is the screenshots I posted earlier.

Honda - Thank you for the explanation.  I have my OWB tied to my oil burner via flat plate heat exchanger.  If I should lose the fire for some reason and the water temp goes below 150 degrees, the oil burner takes over.  When I hear the oil burner running I know something is up with OWB.

As for the wifi sensor, I need to save my pennies and get something like that for my 1400, something to show off to my co-workers what the OWB is doing.  Roger

I don’t have my oil burner kick on when temperature  drops on the wood burner, I don’t want my oil burner to heat the wood burner . It would be a big load on it and probably the oil burner would never shut off!
