G series stand by cycle
« on: December 18, 2017, 06:09:21 AM »

has anyone ever messed around with changing the stand by cycle times???? We got a small warm up that set in last night. temps were in the mid to high 30's during the night. I woke up to the RED LIGHT OF DEATH....lol. Water temp was at 90F. I thought at first It burnt all the wood up, but upon inspection I had an entire full load left...it just went out. Im thinking it probably went hours and hours without cycling. My thermostat in the house goes from 70 to 66 at 8pm (we light the cooler temps for sleeping). Im thinking this, coupled with the warm up in outside temps caused the furnace to not cycle for a long time.......

Any thoughts???? :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :pic:

If your stove has that capability, ya a shorter cycle should help keep the coal bed lit. Also, if the stove pulses any air into the firebox between cycles you can try upping those settings.

Also, Have you checked the moisture content of your wood by chance? Semi seasoned wood can make life difficult with a gasifier when there’s not much of a load on the stove.

yes the g series have a stand by cycle that comes on to keep the coal bed alive. I believe after 90 min of idle, and then ever 30 min after than...for 90 seconds a pop. That's what im referring to, Im wondering if anyone has messed with those settings at all???

Im burning a mix of well seasoned (23%MC and less) and semi-seasoned (23%-30%MC) wood.

Yes it is very easy to do. In your manual on the back page is directions.
First cycle is in 90 minutes from last burn. Runs for three minutes 100% open damper
Then repeats every 30 minutes.  If you are having issues with moisture it may help dry the load out
And keep the coals hot. May help keep moisture off the damper plate.
Also ,it can over heat the stove in the summer time.

Mine cycles every 30 minutes. Set that over the summer. But mostly you need some ash built up and it'll stay lit better. First month is tougher.

I set mine to 5 min on every 30 it seems to work good for me. I have been running it that way for 3 years no issues except self created ones.  8)

Had the same issues on my G200 also. Set mine to 60-5 and 30-5 and no problems since and doesn't over shoot either. I only run in the heating season.
