My wife thinks the wood smoke smells like a skunk.   Or, maybe something else is burning.

My feet hit the floor at 4:40am and I'm at the furnace by 4:45. Back in the house at 5am. Shower, wake the wife, eat and out of the house by 5:20. Usually don't see anyone else until mid morning, sometimes all day. Stoke again when my day is done, anywhere from 5 to 6pm this time of year.  have an old ratty coat I wear when I do stove chores so my others don't smell if I do have to see other people. I really like my winter life, solitude.

We have five girls and my wife thought it would be a great idea to have a New Years Eve party this year for kids only, 15 girls.  :o I came in from the boiler and took off my heavy sweatshirts as two girls were coming out of the mud room bathroom. One of my daughters friends said are we having smoked fish at this party?

I totally have my old jacket in the basement garage like many of you. I like the smell, lots of people comment on my smokey smell but deep down inside I know that they like it.

Haha.. I have had similar comments like is someone smoking meats?  Or last time at work someone seriously asked if something was on fire, I laughed probably my jacket.

My first year all I had was box elder and it had some mold under the bark (falling off).  That stunk so bad I had to fill before showering in the morning.  With better wood, I think I smell better and fill after showering now.  At least no one has told me I smell.....

People are too sensitive now as smoking is outlawed everywhere and we forget how much smoke stink that produced.  I don't smoke, but my dad did and his truck and jacket always smelled like smoke, but now when I am in someone's car that smokes it is hard to take.  I guess we were just more used to it back then.
