About a month ago a buddy dropped off a load of half rotted poplar, 8-12" already blocked up. I wouldn't bother dragging it out of my bush but Dennis got paid to cut it up and take it away. Been going thru 3-4 blocks/night of free heat. Next time he might have oak or ash.

I like soft maple.  Smells nice, dries fast and burns clean enough.  I try to keep some just for bonfires.

I split up about a cord of Silver Maple today.  I cut it down about 9 months ago and cut it all to length then.  It's been sitting uncovered ever since.  Some of it is already starting to rot.  It'll find it's way into the boiler soon.
