Crown Royal / Test Fire 7400E
« on: August 20, 2018, 06:20:20 AM »
hey guys,

Did my first test fire in the 7400E this weekend just heating DHW in home and business. Unit tested well. Took 1 hr and 29min to get from 57 to 180 set point. After is shutdown it shot over to 194 degrees. Unit started gasifying after about 2 min from a cold start. the reaction chamber door is cool enough to hold your hand on while in full gasification.

The back pump area was very tight trying to fit 3 line sets and 3 pumps. I made it all work with still making enough to room to be able to open the back cleanout when necessary. I am going to use some foiled faced insulation board int eh back compartment to keep the fiberglass batts from being exposed (when that stuff gets wet, its ruined). one small leak and spraying water could ruin it.

The electrical hook up was pretty straight forward. The large industrial fan motor is very powerful yet surprisingly quiet.

I believe in the 7400E there is over 1,000lbs of cast refractory, the heat sink on the unit seems to be very nice. the bricks definitely hold a lot of heat. Obviously there isn't much a draw at the moment with only heating DHW.

So far I am pleased with the unit. It has been idling for 2 days and hardly fired, there is little to no creosote around the door frame and I haven't had a single drip come out of either door.

I will post pictures soon after my boiler room install is done and I will give everyone another update after we have some more time in with the unit.

Thanks!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / vent hood ideas
« on: June 06, 2018, 08:02:13 PM »
gents,

Im installing my boiler underneath a lean too and am going to enclose just the section where I load wood to stay out of the elements (wind mostly). I was wondering what people have used in the past for ventilation on indoor units (grages, pole barns..ect). Im thinking either a big vent hood or maybe even just an industrial exhaust fan???

Just looking for ideas...

thanks!

how did the reps meeting go? anything new coming down the pike that you guys can give us info on????

Heatmaster, Heatmor and Crown Royal are the only 3 brands of stoves I feel comfortable recommending to people. The #1 reason is customer service track records and strong dealer support networks.

What about you? whom do you feel comfortable recommending and why???

Crown Royal / Anyone in here running a crown ????
« on: March 21, 2018, 05:33:57 AM »
They recently was able to go and check out a Crown Royal gasification stove in person and I must say what a robust well-built boiler that is. Clean welds, smooth finish and built like a tank.

Anyone on here with a crown? Looks like the last posting was 2015....so I assume maybe not? Lol

I'm trying to bring some activity back to this forum!!!!

Thanks

HeatMaster / roof snow melt/heat loss
« on: March 14, 2018, 06:20:54 AM »
I have noticed that my G200 holds little to no snow on the roof. Even during massive snowstorms where we have received 10-12" overnight, the snow is completely melted off and gone by daybreak. At first I didn't really think to much of it, until it was pointed out that I may have some heat loss issues.

My plan is too take the roof off this summer and insulate the top of the boiler with Rockwool.

What do you guys think? I don't think the heat loss is probably anything to significant, but I think its more of an aesthetics thing for me. Its on of those things that just drives me crazy!! lol.

I have attached a pic of my stove that I took early in the morning after we have a nice snowfall during the night a few weeks back. Temps were in the low twenties all night and at the time the pic was taken.

HeatMaster / few pics of set up for the group
« on: March 13, 2018, 09:28:10 AM »
attached are a few pics of my set up I figured id share with the group. I installed a X-410 controller with 5 sensor probes and one thermocouple for reading Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT's). Now I can monitor temperatures wherever I go. It came in handy the other night when I had a long day at work. I opened the mobile app and noticed that EGT's were only at 260 and water temp was 6 degrees below bottom set point (165). I new that the stove was out of wood and burning up the last of coals. A quick call to the wife and she did her best to throw some wood in, it was enough to get the stove up to temp until I came home :)

HeatMaster / raising almost 2 degrees per minute
« on: March 13, 2018, 05:54:38 AM »
so today I was monitoring my G200 from working through my mobile app and I happen to catch it during a very HOT cycle. EGT's were averaging 400-405 degrees F and water temp was raising almost 2 degrees per minute!!!! WOW!! its not very often that I catch it cycle that hard, usually EGT's are around 350-360 and it raises about 1 degree per minute.
