Plumbing / Lost thermosiphon?
« on: May 06, 2018, 04:57:21 PM »
Hey everyone it's been a while since I've been around. Looking for some help with a problem I'm having. I've got a sidearm hooked up to my 40 gallon hot water heater and it has always worked great. Friday a windstorm took our power out and it was off for a little over 24 hours. When the power came back on and everything was up and running I had hot water as usual. This morning my wife wanted to take a shower and the water was ice cold. Stove was up to temp so that wasnt the issue. I felt the pipe coming out of the top of the sidearm that runs into the hot water heater and it was cool to the touch. So I turned the switch on so the elements would come on and we would have hot water again. What would have caused the thermosiphon to stop, and more importantly how do I fix it? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't even be mad of they would have owned up to it. But no they insisted my stove overheated and that's the only possible scenario. Live and learn I guess. If it seems to good to be true, it is.

Just an update, my stove is cracking in the same spots for the third time now. The thing has still never overheated. Cannot wait to get rid of this piece of crap.

I have no use for them. The crap they pulled when my stove cracked was unreal. I wish the best of luck to anyone who has one or may acquire one. But mine will be gone as soon as I can afford a new one.

I saw an ad for them a while back and they were calling it a yard stove and that was why it was "legal". I wish I could tell every potential customer my story, but I would probably get sued for defamation of character or something.

both. right now its only in the firebox. Top two cracks. Cracked right along side where we welded it before. Im gonna try to put some flat stock or something across the corners and see if that stiffens it up any.

Two of my cracks have re-cracked. At least I found it before dead of winter this time.

I saw that. I have no idea what to make of it all. Makes me mad that they made some updates to address problems that weren't problems if they happened to you before. Like your stove cracking all to hell. But hey they will update for only $800 if you haul it to them.

It held up for the rest of the season. It started to crack at the very tops of the old cracks again but only went a little way.

I dont have any other pics. If you look into the firebox, the cracks will be in all 4 corners, almost perfectly in the middle of that rounded edge.

I see on there website now they have added a section addressing the cracks. They still say it is from overheating, but offer their solution for it. I imagine a good fabricator and welder could do the same thing, or they will do it for $700. I still think it's a design flaw and not from overheating, but at least they are acknowledging it.

i had what i could call a steady trickle out of 3 of the cracks. The one on the top left was the only one that didn't leak.
