Title: Low wood usage
Post by: jerkash on January 14, 2012, 06:58:36 PM
Amazed at the low wood usage on my Legend.  The coldest time of the year was last night and today. 27 last night.  I try to burn in 12 hr cycles and have not had to fill it all the way up yet.  I had a fireplace insert for four years and I believe it uses the same amount if not less wood than the insert did and my whole house stays warm plus my hot water.

I also read something about the following and it works great.  I cut my wood 21 inches.  The reason is that is what I cut it for my insert and I had right much already cut when I bought my OWF.  I try to let it burn down to nothing but ashes and a few coals.  When I stack my wood in the OWF, I stack it in the front because it burns from the front to the back and usually burns up better.  If I stack it in the back, it cools down and the wood doesn't burn up as good.  Just a tip that you may find works for you.

I see you got your legend of few years ago. How has it been operating for you?

Glad to hear.  I was about 2 seconds away from owning a legend.  I would have one if the dealer wasn't such a tool.  I'm only 30 years old, 28 at the time I was ready to purchase one.  Long story short, he thought I was out kicking tires and wasting his time.  He lost out on a same day sale and its kind of sad how many dealers act this way.  I bought my truck brand new with cash in hand.  The first 2 dealerships I came across when I told them this is what I want is this is what I'll pay pretty much told me there's the door.  When I got to the 3rd dealership I left with a brand new pickup bought and paid for.
