Looking for semi load of wood in Michigan...
« on: May 06, 2014, 06:03:11 AM »

Hey all you  Michigan burners! I am looking to buy my wood for the next coming years. I am getting tired of looking for wood to cut and having to travel long distances to get it. Is there a good company to buy wood from by the semi-load? I am in the Mayville area and used to drive to Flint area to get those awesome Ash trees the city was cutting down all over the place. Since I no longer work in that area I don't really feel the need to drive there any more. Any help would be awesome-sauce. Thanks

Brian

I've seen ads on Craigslist from up around Harrison, but he wants about $2000 or better for a 20ish cord load.

Wow, that seems a bit steep for wood. I almost think I would rather put up with scavenging for wood then pay 2000 dollars...

You have to look around, delivery is the killer. Especially withthe new regs and insurance. $55-60/full cord plus delivery.  There a guy in kaska, sag bay, midland that I know of. Some sell splits, most sell log length full logs to get more wood on the truck.  If your lucky and can find a deck somewhere and buy the non mill stuff you can get 20-30 cord per load if you ask and they are permitted for the road to your house. I know you have to be lucky. Right now you should be CSS ing 2016's wood.

Yeah I guess I should have tried to figure that one out. I don't have any wood for next year stacked or cut yet. I burned most of next years wood this year. It was a looooong winter

Good luck on finding one! I can't even buy one here in NH which is frustrating  :bash:. Almost everything is being chipped or going right up to the mills..

Pulp mills are buying it up in Wisconsin for 120$ a federal cord. Everything they  can get their hands on. Soft or hard.

That's the price I paid when I got my semi load a couple weeks ago. Hauler said pulp wood is still in high demand because of the extreme hard winter & wet summer in Wisconsin. Looks like this winter is going to be no exception.
