General Discussion / Re: New trailer layout
« on: August 22, 2018, 08:08:49 PM »
Most engineers that we deal with in Wisconsin do not use dielectrics.  They do not spec them out on any state buildings we do either.  The state engineers say that if a closed loop system has proper water treatment they are not needed.  If they are to be used per the spec we usually use the victaulic brass dielectric nipples.

My 5500 is on its 13th year. I had to replace the original door after 6 years and need a replacement again. I had to weld in new door jamb after the 8th year.  My next boiler will be a 409 unit!!

Portage & Main / Re: Need advice!!? New BL 3444 leaking!

Is this boiler brand new? If so and it were mine I would want it changed out. Im not sure why it is your responsibility to find somebody to repair it if it's new.

That is a surface mounted convector. I have never installed a Trane brand but the Rittling and Vulcan ones we typically install you are able to flip the element in them to pipe them from the top.

They are called connectors. If they don't have legs on them most engineers in the area I live want them 8" to the bottom. They them that high for the baseboard trim and so they can be cleaned easily under them. Piping doesn't matter. If you pipe them from below make sure they have a tap on the top of one of the headers to vent air out of them.

I cut the bottom and front of the tank and the front of the cage but leave the top bar. Have about 40 of them. They work great!

I'm just saying that Milwaukee core rigs are a lot like Ridgid 300 pipe threaders. They have been around for a long time and last quite a while but there are better options out there.

We use to buy Milwaukee's and have a few left in service. We now use Husquvarna which are very simmular Hilti. The are way nicer to use. They are alot easier to mount to a wall and they have nowhere the slop between the brass pads and the base like the Milwaukee's do. If you are in a tight spot the machine pulls directly off the base unlike the Milwaukee 2hich you need to take it off the end of the base.

Plumbing / Re: Another side arm vs flat plate question.
« on: October 04, 2017, 09:22:44 AM »
I have a side arm and have a 10 plate hx piped into the cold line to the 50 gallon water heater and have a bypass piped to it on the boiler side. In the spring and fall under low heating loads I leave the bypass shut and run 100% of the boiler water through the hx. During the winter I open the bypass about half way. The demostic cold fill to the water heater gets tempered to about 80 to 90 degrees. It seems to work very well.  I have a family of 4 and we all can shower and not run out of hot water.

The only thing I have used has been a Nibco 733-3 CxF  union.  I believe that is what you are looking for.
