Finding a viable replacement for Photobucket
« on: August 12, 2017, 12:35:29 PM »

I’m still trying  to find a decent replacement for Photobucket {not that it was that great anyways}.

For those that don’t know, from now on for a linked picture there to be shown in posts here, it’s gonna cost you $400 in ransom a year, er I mean membership fee.

So far I’ve tried Amazon Drive and Google Photos. Personally I hate Google, the privacy policy is horrible as well as the policy about subpoena’s and emails.

Neither Amazon nor Google supply the necessary .jpg suffix in the link for the “insert image” function to work properly.

I have a Flickr account I have posted from in the past, it’s kinda weird as well, not near as easy as just clinking on the link Photobucket supplied.

It does if you right click on the photo and select “open image in new tab”, then copy the address from the address bar, the links Google supplies don’t work with this sites software as is.

I just personally hate google, I won’t use their search engine either, especially when Duck Duck Go works just as well and they don’t record everything.

You just need to right click on the image and copy image location. Options may be different on some browsers though.
If you are posting to a public forum then I don't see security making much difference.

Okay, officially Amazon Drive does not support third party hosting of images, technically Google doesn’t either, as those could possibly break at any time. Flickr does if you leave the link in that takes you back to Flickr, this is up in the air as Verizon bought Yahoo which owns Flickr, those links may break at anytime if Verizon or Yahoo decides to be c*nts like Photobucket. I’m seriously tempted to use some of the space I have left for the hosting of my business site and use that for third party hosting.

I’m gonna give Cubeupload a shot, free with the option to donate what you want.

You have a space limit on your webhosting? Is it really cheap or something?

Not that I’ve come up against yet, however, I have like 7000 photos on Photobucket.

Cubeupload is cute, much faster than Photobucket, however already have had that strange issue of rotation on the photos not being correct after uploading.

Are the rotated images taken with an apple device?
Cubeupload doesn't look too bad. Apparently you don't even have to register? I just uploaded a pic to test without.

Photo was taken with a iPhone 5S, this will be the first time I’ve ever had the rotation issue, period. Another forum I’m on sometimes you just want to rotate the entire screen as so many pictures are rotated wrong on that one.

It is an apple issue. They don't actually rotate the picture when taken, it just puts the orientation it in the exif data. If a site ignores the exif data then it will be displayed the direction that the device was rotated when the picture was taken.

Yep, read up on that last night. Never had an issue with it before. Got ahold of the guys that run cubeupload and they were surprised as well.
