Title: BL 28-40 blower fan making some noise and float level float.
Post by: Super44 on December 24, 2016, 06:22:59 AM
On my second season now with my 28-40 and last night when putting wood in I notices the blower fan making noise it had not made before. Makes me wonder if I should round up a replacement sooner rather than later.  Where is a good place to find that spare motor?

If its a common motor then Amazon, Ebay, Burdens Surplus Center or even WW Grainger, if not so common then contact your dealer.

Might be worth a look to see if some debris got caught in the squirrel cage, some motors even have a place to oil them.  But ya, good idea to have a spare ready on the shelf anyway.  I keep an extra blower motor, pump and solenoid on hand for my Central. Odds seem to favor it being -20 and after business hours when they fail.

And its a Friday afternoon with a three day weekend coming up. We never break belts on the combines unless it’s a Friday afternoon, we don’t have one on the shelf, the dealer doesn’t have one and it can’t be ordered till Monday.

Motor is a Century model SFHP blower  stock number 383.  Zoro has there replacement the 383 for $110.00  https://www.zoro.com/century-electric-draft-inducer-blower-383/i/G0783295/  It seems to be working fine, just the new noise making me a little concerned.

So I ordered the exact replacement motor from Grainger a few weeks ago.  Today I get an email from Grainger saying they canceled the order claiming the manufacturer has discontinued the motor due to government regulations.  This make no sense to me on a blower motor??

Anyone have a source for a blower fan in the US? If not, will ping P&M.

What model fan is it? 1TDP7 is a common one.
Usually Google searching the model # will result in lots of sellers on eBay, Amazon, Zoro Tools etc.
Dodds Bros in Missouri specializes in parts. If you order a fan from them ask for Dayton or Fasco, the Ptech fans they offer aren't as good quality. Great people though. Carry about anything.

 Impossible to get on the phone though if you're me... Never once have I been able to reach them on the phone. Place an online order and just wait. No confirmation email, no tracking number, nothing. Just wait lol. They do have great products and great prices though

Hi there I Wood check for something in the squirrel cage. I sell the boilers and have not heard of many that have failed. But have seen this before that something got in there causing the noise.
Good luck

I will put this here because it is the same boiler, different issue.  The float for the water level after 4 years is needing to be replaced.  Is this normal and I should get a couple just to have a spare??

I got the new float and is has a little different neck set up on it.  Started the boiler today and everything seems OK so far.  Only issue is a wood pile that needs a bunch more wood in it.  Come spring and shut down a few more shark bites will be replaced.

The old float cracked where the threaded rod went into it.  I maybe should have picked up a spare?

Made it thru the winter with no issues and shut it down today.  I have a few more shark bites to replace before the next first fire but other than that it was a trouble free winter as far as the boiler goes.

Replaced all but a couple shark bites during the summer.  Fired it up 10/20/20 and it went pretty well as the couple remaining shark bites only dripped a bit until they got warm.  The last ones are the ones that hook up to the heat exchangers so next summer I will pull them out and solder on something better.  Just need to come up some kind of a coupler so if need be I can pull the heat exchangers without cutting PEX to do it. Off to a pretty good start. :)

5/1/21 I shut "Little Smokey" down for the season.  I replaced all but a couple "Shark Bites" and had almost no drips while cooling down for this summer.  This last winter was a very trouble free season!!  Now to get to work on next seasons wood pile and there is a new bull at the farm that I need to spend some time with to know how he thinks.  So far all he seems interested in are where the cows are.  Go figure!! ;D

I've seen those sharkbites drip when shutting down too. Good call on swapping them out.

It seems my water lever float has cracked at the neck like the one before it.  Should have gotten a spare or two.

Burning a fair amount of iron wood this winter.  If dry it burns very nice. :)

Had a trouble free season.  I learned how to shut it down for a week due to warm weather and start it up in a couple hours. There is a tiny air leak someplace and the fire just keeps smoldering if I throw in a chunk or 2 every couple of days.  Only a couple shark bites still in the system only because they have not leaked like all the rest.
