G200 Control Panel removal
« on: March 07, 2018, 03:00:15 PM »

I need to clean the LOGO display on the G200 Control Panel - somehow it has filled up with cobwebs - go figure!
Looks simple enough to remove the panel but when I tried loosening the 6 screws, the panel remained solidly attached.
Anyone done this before? I'm not anxious to try prying it open without understanding what I am doing.
I had thought there was a tutorial video out there somewhere but can't find it.

The cover has a gasket that you have to pry pretty hard on to loosen sometimes. Start at one corner with a flat screwdriver.
Remember there are wires connecting to the switches. It's nice to have a vise grip to clamp the cover to the lip above so you have your hands free once it's off. And turn the power off in the back of the furnace first.

You should be removing the six screws that hold the black cover in place. A large screwdriver does work, but I place a scrap piece of lumber under it to avoid marring the finish. First time I popped one loose I was sure I was going to bust something before it let loose.

Hi RSI, been gone since Feb 23 up north enjoying the snow. I have had my panel off and E Yoder is correct that the gasket really can hold the panel cover on. Take off the 6 screws and then gently pry at one corner like Yoder said and be aware of the connected wires (power off). I had plenty of length on my wires. I had it off when I moved my red warning light to the outside of my shed. I put a non conductive electrical conduit in the opening of my red warning light and ran new wires in the conduit to my outside weather proof lamp.

OK - having just shut down my furnace for the season (need a Hazmat suit for that job!), I'm finally about to remove that control panel.  While I'm at it, is there anything I can do to upgrade or enhance the LOGO display - it is pitiful!  Impossible to see in daylight.

Seimens has come out with a newer version.  If you wanted to rewire a few things it could be replaced with the new one.

Sounds promising but, what's really involved in that "rewire a few things", Eldon?
I'm not exactly an electronics engineer :(

I haven't seen specific instructions but the new one is doing pretty much the same thing, just a tad simpler. I think Seimens is replacing the logo 6 with the 8 so they should interchange. If you call the main office they should be able to send you info to look at and you can decide if you want to tackle it.  Basically it's moving one wire at a time. Usually things like this look more intimidating than they really are. I can't think through all the steps unless I had it in front of me.
The only new wiring is the new one uses 5 wires to the damper actuator instead of 3.
