I have decided to add some baffles to the heat exchanger this summer to see if I can make the smoke more efficient before leaving the stove. I really want to add second burn tubes at the top of the exchanger to if I can. I will probably have to build a new plate for the back  of the stove to do that.  I just don't know if the gasses would be hot enough to burn once mixed with the air from the tubes. Is there a certain temp that need to be met for gasses to ignite. It seems to work in a wood stove but that is in the main firebox im not sure if it would work in the upper heat exchanger.

If not hopefully the baffle will slow the gasses down enough to make them transfer more heat.

What is your stack temp when it is running hard now.

Im not sure yet im goint to try to get a lazer temp gauge and get a baseline first. then I will go from there.

I put a temp gauge in the stack of my 200ss. I think it goes to 700 deg. Its been higher than that so many times the gauge is wrecked. Do you guys think some type of heat reclaimer in the chimney would be worth building?

 I built what I think is the worlds largest water bong to go on top of my old Wood Doctor years ago, it raised the return temps 10 degrees before it returned to the dragon, sure creates a lot of creosote though, not sure if it is really worthwhile, cooling or drawing heat from smoke is completely different that cooling clean exhaust.

so here is something I came up with over the summer. It's a baffle that forces the flue gas to go around the heat exchanger. it sits in the middle of the existing exchanger. I'm a little worried about restricting the flow so we'll see what happens.
