Mine has always been on the return side, didn’t have any kind of strainer before the pump until I added mine.

If you look at the one picture the shaft isn’t all the way thru the rear bearing to gain a little more for the PTO shaft to ride on. I’ve noticed zero wiggle when it’s running but everything far as the shaft and yoke is still new. A PTO shaft with set screws could be used instead, but then not near as easy to fill the bar oil reservoir.

I took some pictures of mine this weekend. This is what I was talking about; the controls under the plate...?

Have the others you've seen look just like yours? My friend Doug in KY doesn't have an oil cooler on his and it doesn't look like it ever did either...? He was able to hunt down one of the original owners/ inventors. Apparently he still works at a John Deere dealer. Supposedly he told Doug that it was invented by him and 3 other farmers and they used off the shelf items. It sounds small scale to me. I wonder if they made changes along the way and that's why there's so many differences?

Oh I’m sure, my manual shows a hydraulic windlass that used rope to drag the logs in. Also showed a curved jaw at one time for the log lock. Wonder if your’s is an earlier model?

I’ve thought about reverse engineering them, then have  local amish welding shop take care of that (a few hours of welding and I quickly lose interest). However with today’s sue happy society making them stupid proof would be near impossible.

Here’s mine, I have taken that rotary valve apart for the bar and rebuilt it. Built an arbor to VERY carefully press the brass bushing out, it’s extremely thin walled and the housing is only aluminum. I turned a new bushing and pressed back into place with a generous dollop of sleeve lock on it. I turned a new shaft from cold rolled steel and cut two o-ring grooves in it instead of the original one, any other machining that needed done was in my Bridgeport. New rotary valves can be had yet, a company in the UK makes em and they do have distributors here in the states. I added the return spring to it as the internal one busted and is not to be had anywhere.

Heres how mine is set up, I still have the button for the saw, but have a momentary on toggle for the jaw and a maintained toggle thats ON/OFF/ON for the splitter. The toggle that doesn’t self return to center is how I get some of the automatic action. Top toggle is the jaw, bottom toggle is the splitter.

Like this is a maintained: http://www.surpluscenter.com/Electrical/Switches/Toggle-Switches/SPDT-CO-TOGGLE-SWITCH-20-AMPS-11-3218.axd

Thanks for the info on the pump mounting Marty. I have a couple of questions:
1. Was your filter always on the return side or was it originally on the suction side?
2. I looked up the parts you listed. The splined shaft is 12" long. The pillow blocks are 1.7 wide each and the pump is 6.35 wide for a total of 9.8 of the shaft to go through both blocks and the pump. That leaves only 2.2 inches to connect to the PTO shaft. That seems way too little no?

Thanks!
Rich

I checked tonight, by not having the shaft all the way in the rear pillow block I actually have more shaft in the yoke on the processor than the tractor end yoke has.

With these extra mods you will run into juice problems especially if you add a cooling fan like I did and the chip conveyor. First issue I had was the oil pump wouldn’t always run if the cooling fan was, used a four pole relay for that, pulled the juice directly from the power cord for the pump, ended that problem. Then some hot days had solenoid issues, hotter stuff gets the more resistance and the more loss of juice.

Years ago I solved it all. Get a piece of 10/4 SO cord. Buy quality 50amp battery charger clamps. Solder the green and white wires into the negative battery clamp, the red and black goes to the positive. On the machine I welded a 1/4” stainless steel bolt to the frame and connected the green and white wires to that, from there I ran a new ground to everything. One positive wire supplies juice to the cooling fan and chip conveyer, the other hot wire supplies juice to the solenoids and bar oil pump, end of problems.

BTW, TSC does not have quality clamps, goto an auto parts store and buy quality clamps.

Great! I ordered the parts from Surplus Center. This weekend is supposed to be a washout so maybe I'll get some time to pull it into the barn and get some work done on it.

I bought a new bar, sprocket and chain for it. The bar on it was most likely the original 404 bar but the sprocket on it was for 3/8" and the chain was 3/8" as well.

I also need to find a place to mount my flow control valve. Where is yours located?

Thanks for the bar valve picture. Mine has the buttons on it but the box itself is completely wrapped up with electrical tape and the handle on the valve is flopping around; I assume it's broken. Pretty sure mine doesn't have any spring on it at all either...

Another question Marty (sorry). In your video you are powering your conveyor from the hydraulics on the WoodEze. Can you share how you did that as well please?
Thanks!

Actually the hydraulics are ran off the tractor, didn’t figure the system on the processor needed the extra work or heat.
