General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / underground pipes
« on: November 17, 2013, 06:14:35 PM »
boys (and girls) i am rushing to get a home made boiler into a temporary location for the winter  i need to leave teh insulated pex on top of the ground for the winter (or put it inside another tile to protect it from UV rays (i needed)  is there one versus the others for this type of above ground install. Also when this thing goes to its final resting spot it would be easier for me to bury part of the piep and leave part of it running above ground under a deck with only about 10 inches of clearance between teh wood and the earth so 30 feet of the anticipated 110 feet would be above ground perminent

What would you all suggest?

Please tell me if you all see these "hot words" as well?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / inside ten year old stove
« on: November 13, 2012, 05:48:37 PM »
in my opinion this stove inside the water jacket is as good as the day i built it...do you really need that expensive conditioner?, does it make a difference?. Or is it just a money grab and a way to get out of waranty issues? You guys decide.

Heatmor / welding heatmore
« on: November 11, 2012, 04:02:22 PM »
looking for a little advice?

my friend has got his self an 8 year old heatmore (not sure of the model) but is has a crack on three or four corners inside the door where the fire box meets the door. it apprears to be stainless but my magnet sticks to it so i am thinking 400 series? Should i approach this weld with rod made for stainless to mild steel or stainless to stainless. I am doing this as a favour but i only want to do it once.

thanks for any assistance

Wood Doctor / wood doctor help
« on: February 05, 2012, 10:20:42 AM »
it does seem as though wood doctor as we know it is no longer. lets keep this topic for those who have a wood doctor and are looking for help from others. i would ask that no one use this topic for taking out frustrations on  arthur or his company. if you have a wood doctor stove and need help post here. if you are going to bash the owner of wood doctor, i will (if still a mod) delete the posts from this topic

i would ask the new owner and new mods to delete posts here that do not apply to the operation of the wood doctor stove

Thanks

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / colder weather on the way
« on: December 27, 2011, 09:19:17 PM »
well here in south western ontario it looks like the "24 burn" will be gone for a while. this winter season has been quite warm with temps around the freezing temp at night and well into the 30s' and 40's in the day light hours. looks like we are in for some freezing weather for  a few days now. it has been easy on the wood pile as of late but that may be over now.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / taco cartridge pumps and their life
« on: September 08, 2011, 02:47:48 PM »
i sent a question to taco on the subject of running thei cartridge pumps 24/7 or shutting them on and off with the furnace blower, their response is below (this is a cut and paste and is word for word their response)

From: Timothy Doran
Message: Good Morning, On certain motor designs start and stop operations may shorten the life of the unit because the start switch and/or start windings will wear out. Cartridge circulators do not have start swithes or start windings and therefore do not see these issues. I have seen our 00-series circulators run for many years in either application.

September arrives and all our old friends are dribbling in. Welcome back to all the regular members and a hearty hidihoe to our newbies. It looks as though it is shaping up to be a learning experience here for another season (shy should it be anything different)

I hope you all had a great summer and get a new chainsaw for labor day.

Again..Welcome Home

i have been watching for a long while and thought it is time i posted my thoughts just because i can (LOL)

when i first saw dealers starting to post here i thought it would turn in to a nightmare of one dealer bashing another and then folks like me (who are not dealers) would jump in sticking up for the brand they own and backing each dealer

Well, I am exstatic that none of this happened and that on this board at least, dealers can respect other dealers and the rest of us (non dealers) have in fact gained knowledge of different brands from these dealers.

I would like to commend you all for being so level headed and you have all given me new hope that the world may still survive

Thank you all and Phin Phan for his patience and wisdom for allowing this board to mature as it has

General Discussion / off topic electric stove
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:45:22 PM »
jsut thought i post this up. it is not my idea and i found it thourgh a search engine but i thought it might be helpful to some other folks as the baking season is here

my wife put her stove on auto clean and when it was all done she went about wiping the stove off with some kind of cleanser, well she had the rag quite wet and some went in the vent at teh top of the door and ran down inside between the insid and outer glass. she asked me to take teh door apart and clean the inside of the glass. well that looked like a big job so i tried to figure out how to get the door off and then get all the screws out and pry the door apart to get at the glass. before i tackled that i thought i would google it. Well! What followed was a life saver. turns out a few women have had the same problem, i read one story of how the lady called the repair man and he took the thing all apart and she paid 180 bucks (whew not for me) then the next one was the bomb! A  guy said his wife had the same problem and while he was trying to figure out how to get the door apart he took the bottom drawer out and was laying on the floor and noticed that the vents in the bottom of the door were a little larger thatn the top he put a wool sock over a very stiff steel rod and shoved it up through the vent and swiped around like a windshield wiper and POOF clean window. I tried it and it worked like a charm. i hope my passing this on will help some other poor smuck and earn him a big thank you from his darlin too. Merry Christmas to you all

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / challange to all OWB sellers
« on: November 13, 2010, 05:42:01 PM »
there seems to be a lot of bashing here of late between owners or dealer of OWB's on honesty and truth of each other

i would like to see all these agents and owners come forth and explain truthfully the warranties they offer. some say 30 years on the boiler plate. does that mean the welds too? is the whole stove (fire box and water jacket) covered? and if the warranty is pro rated at what percent and for how many years at each percent. will they fix the stove on your property or will you have to pay for shipping to the manufacturers yard? will they supply all parts and labor to correct the flaw in your boiler or only parts or only labor?

warranties on these OWB are foggy at best, how about some truth  on them from the dealers. there are many folks coming here to get  information to help them decide what OWB they are going to choose, some truthfull answers here on the warranties may help sway their decision.

any takers?
