Shaver Furnace / Shaver out of business??
« on: October 24, 2016, 01:19:36 PM »
If Shaver is out of business does it make sense to bother with the water sample that I purchased for the next 5 years for the warranty . I don't expect them to stand by any thing that should fail so why mess with it.

Shaver Furnace / water treatment
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:33:11 AM »
Just talked with Randy about the Rust Blocker water treatment that was good for 5 years. He said that they no longer use the Rust Blocker.
I need some recommendations for a water treatment. I'm at 5 years now.

The pumps run however you wire them.

I have to admit you have me lost in what your doing.  Sounds like you're deliberately over filling. Just fill it till it starts to run out then stop. Don't add no more. You should not have to do this every day. When I fill mine about a cup of water runs out. I probably don't add 2gal. in a year.

If you do what I posted above about the piece of heater hose on the over flow, it might solve your problem, it did mine. The water condenses and returns.

Take a piece of heater hose about 7-8ins.long that slips over the over flow with a slight bending upward. When you fill your stove bend the hose down so to let the excess water out then bend it upwards as to let the steam turn back to water and return to the stove . You fill the stove with the temperature at it's highest point. Shavers do not use a lot of water. I fill once a week and my fill valve is only on for about 3 seconds and it's running out of the over flow. Is that top plate sealed?

How  much wood you burning heating 2 houses for a season?   Try blocking part of the grate to see how it reacts. On my 165 I blocked off the front 4in just to keep the blast off of the door. 10 cords for me last season. Heating house, garage,  hot tub and hot water.

In my 30+ years of wood burning stoves I have never had any problems bur
ing such woods by themselves in forced air boxes. Sounds like your friend needs some help installing his duct work.

If you can't control your fire with the damper you have serious problems.

I wouldn't burn much hedge in a forced air stove but that's just my personal opinion.  To me it just seems that the metal on the firebox would get much hotter than the firebox of a boiler.  You don't have the water on the other side preventing the steel from over heating.
Sorry, but to me good burning wood would only get the temperature up to what ever the therostat is set to.

Seal that top plate real good with silicone or you'll have a mess.

As for the heat diff between the front and rear of the unit, my ranco prob is in a well in the rear. On the left front of the stove is the over flow tube. I inserted a long lab thermometer deep in and tilted so the bulb was in the water. The temps were the same.
