Ok I need to know what is the proper place to instal the y strainer in my sytem. My system is real simple. I will lay it out for you ,and then if you guys would give me a few pointers in where I should best locate them.
1 water out of boiler to pump.
2 then feed line goes all the way to plate exchanger.
3 leave plate exchanger then head to furnace.
4 go through water to air exchanger.
5 leave exchanger and then return back to furnace.
Does the orientation of the y strainer matter?or does it need to be in the vertical position?
I had originaly though of placing it before the pump right at the furnce.I then wondered if I could have an issue with it plugging ,and then causing the pump to burn up.So I was think placing it right after the pump.
Or Do I just wait and instal it right before the plate exchanger(DHW) in the house ?
What is your opinions ,and what seems to be normal practice for installing them?

Right before any heat exchangers. Mine are horizontal.
-
I installed mine right before heat exchanger in horizontal also.

I installed the Y strainer for our system, inside the house before the heat exchanger and the side arm for the water heater.I also installed ball valves on either side of the Y strainer so I could check or clean it without loosing much water.

i instlled my filter in the house right after my pump (it is also in the house) it has a by pass around it so i can change the filter if needed without shutting down teh system.
link to see it below

Thanks for the pic Willie  Your piping looks real nice. What kind of filter is that?
I will place my Y strainer right before my plate exchanger at the beginning of my circuit after the pump. Thanks everyone

im not sure of the name any more but it takes filters that look like a big role of string. works good, after a season teh string is a rusty color but i have never seen any real "chunks" of anything. i have never used any water condtioner but i have used an oxygen grabber to reduce the oxygen content of the water

I had thought of putting in one of those air seperators, but I am out of money(literally)so I will just have to hook up what I got for now.
I was curious on your filter ,as I looked at a few and none were rated for hot as water that our stoves produce to run through them.
I thought a filter would be a great idea with the plate exchanger.

I installed mine right before heat exchanger in horizontal also.
Why horizontal ?
-
Seemed like the thing to do for me, in my case= less water loss when cleaning screen. Other than that's where they ended up for me, No reason.
-
a good place for the stainer is just before the heat exchanger on the horizontal with the Y opening pitched slightly down. Be off the floor enough for a wrench to open the fitting to remove the stainer.

I installed mine right before heat exchanger in horizontal also.
Why horizontal ?
The sediment will settle in the bottom of the screen, not prohibiting flow until it's completely full. Easier to remove and not lose crud back down the system as well.

I'm having issues with my mixing valve screen clogging on my domestic hot water. I need to filter out the little particulates prior to the mixing valve. Any ideas on a filter for hot water?

Grainger rules. Always compare prices though, somethings can be found for less, but they always seem to have what I need. This looks pretty reasonable:

Wouldn't this be what he would want? http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/APOLLO-Y-Strainer-2NYZ9 (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/APOLLO-Y-Strainer-2NYZ9)

That would work too i reckon plus it's USA made. My thinking is bigger strainer= less restriction.
