Title: Moving on from my 10k
Post by: CountryBoyJohn on July 11, 2018, 05:28:09 AM
Well guys.  I'm moving on from my 10k.  I've been heating with it for the last 5 seasons.  I actually burned my first summer this summer for hot water.  We added 3 foster kids, for a total of 6 kids (5 boys) taking showers almost every night, so it was a no-brainer to keep burning.  I've been hem-hawing around for the last 2 years trying to sell my stove.  I've had a couple guys interested, but not bite.  I had my set price point that it wasn't worth moving on unless I got a certain price for it.  But, I finally have a buyer.

When I first bought my stove, gassers had just come on the market and they most had serious issues.  Creosote in the exchangers, controller issues, heavy maintenance requirements.  They just weren't that appealing to me at all.  I was set on a conventional stove and I've not regretted my decision.  At the time, I needed to be able to stuff her full and leave for a few days.  We all know my evaluation of everything lead me to the Heatmaster brand and I have been very satisfied.

But, gassers have come a long way in the last 5 years.  Creosote free exchangers, brush-less maintenance, dependable controllers and operation.  Plus, the most attractive feature for me, is a significant anticipated reduction in wood consumption.  I have averaged between 12 and 15 cords of wood each winter.  When I had 2 kids 5 years ago, it was a piece of cake to get that much wood cut up.  Now with 6, time is much more scarce.  Last season and looking forward to next, I was always behind.

Anyway, I have sold my 10k and will be taking shipment on a G200 in the next month.  I'll be documenting as much as I can on my youtube channel.  I'll keep you guys posted on here regarding progress and such.  I'll definitely be watching my wood consumption.  I am planning on starting it up as soon as I get it installed so I can get my water heaters turned back off again.

I guess I'm about where you are. Been running a conventional for over 20 yrs., currently a C375. Got 2 sons and soninlaw running G's and the pressure is on. I'm retiring here shortly and have a GS200 ready to go in. Planning to do some experimenting with it, may blow it sky high but it will interesting comparing notes. Keeping my C375 ready to fire back up if need be. Just a good solid conventional.Call it a lazy man's stove. If it goes in the door it don't get split. Never had a wood shed. Green, dry, hard or half rotten. If it looks like wood just knock the snow off and stick it in. Also got a B250 chip burner coming at some point so looking forward to a interesting winter. Hope it's a cold one. Now that's a crazy thing to want.

So it looks like you acquired 4 more youngun's in 5 yrs. Doing pretty good. In another 5yrs that will be 10 total. You'll need a G400 just for hot water. Really though there ain't nothing better than a big happy family.

HAHA!!  Nope on that front!  I'm done.  Just got clipped 2 weeks ago.  We had our third 2 years ago and decided to take on foster and ended up getting a trio of boy siblings.  The 2 older ones are big help.  They have only been in our house 2 months and have already helped unload 2 trailer loads of wood.  They are only going to be more helpful!

Got the 10k moved out.  It was a lot heavier than I remembered.  I hope to have the video up next week.  Let's just say I needed more tractor.  And no, no tractors, stoves or people were harmed in the making of the video.  :o

I'll keep an eye for the video.
The G200 is about as heavy as the MF10e.
Be safe! :)

Yah, around a ton for a G200. My Bobcat 864 with a set of pallet forks handles 200’s with ease, not brave enough to try a G400 with it, move that with the backhoe or yard lift.

I got my "Moving On" video posted:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Riq9h8Yy20Q&t=184s

The actual moving day video is almost done.  I also posted an in-depth video of how to clean out the rear air channel in the conventional Heatmaster stoves.
