How long has your boiler been operating. Long term
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:51:18 AM »

I looked around alot and seen most peoples reviews of the central boilers have had them between 2 and 3 years. I'm curious who has had them far longer and how the firebox has held up. Mines been operating about a month now.

I don't qualify for your request, but here goes anyway. We installed April 2011 and went into 24/7 operation Oct 20th.

So far so good!!!

Neighbor down the road has been running eight years.  He told me he went to sams club and got two 50 gal drums of antifreeze to put in it when he installed it and hasn't touched it since then.

Just signed up. Great forum.
I have a central boiler 4030 and i am on my 6th season. The only issue i have had was the door cracked last year and they sent me a replacement at no charge. I am heating a 2000 sqft house and a 1500 sqft insulated basement. Walls are r21 and ceilings are r38 have 9ft ceilings in 50% of the house and the rest are cathederal ceilings ranging from 24ft high to 14ft. I have 15 low e 3ft by 6ft  windows and  french door. I keep the house 73f and fill my chugger 2 times a day in the coldest weather single didgets to twentys and once when its above freezing. I use between 8 to 10 full cords depending on the harshness of the winter. I heat from late september through late may.

This is our 3rd season with our E-Classic 1400.   Fired it up late 2009.

We have it in use for 8 months per year.  So, about 20 months (600 days) of heat from this stove so far.

The only item to fail or be replaced was the grate rods.

My Central Boiler was a CL4436.It was installed 10/01/02 and performed well for 7 years. It began to leak from the water jacket into the fire box.I had an excellent welder (he welds nuclear plants) come weld it and it worked until Nov.2010.At that time he tried every trick he knew but he couldn't get the leaks stopped.I finally gave up and turned on the propane at $300/month.
I noticed a year or so earlier that the new Nitrite test kit I ordered suggested a much higher Nitrite level which I adhered to. The original kit that came with the furnace suggested 1000 to 1500 PPM and the new kit suggested up to 3000 PPM.My PH stays about 8.5 right from the well.I had been maintaining the Nitrite levels at 1200 ppm for about 6 or 7 years and this may have been the root cause of the problem.
I called Nevin Eiker,my dealer two times and he was going to talk to his factory rep.and get back to me with a discount on a new furnace. When neither Nevin nor the sales dept. returned my calls,I decided I was being avoided and decided to bite the bullet and heat with propane for the remainder of the winter.
Nevin told me he had sold 40 furnaces in his territory the past winter and I suspect I was not the only one having trouble since so many had been sold. The thought also crossed my mind that Central Boiler may have bought some Chinese steel in an effort to boost profits but I doubt that will ever be known.
The prorated warranty of CB is 8 years and that would not leave much money to make a customer whole again;not that they would care enough to do it.--------shorman

This is what i am afraid of as my 4030 is my only source of heat. I wonder if the unit is pro rated and you had a classic could you still get a classic or would you have to get a eclassic?
