Took a look at a HeatMaster SS today....
« on: February 19, 2011, 08:12:47 PM »

Not sure which size it was, but the firebox was HUGE.  Seemed like it was awfully thin-walled though even though it was stainless.  they do have a neat shaker grate design and the exhaust is forced to come all the way forward in the firebox before being routed back to the pipe in the rear.  I wish I could find info on the newer gasification furnace they have though.

They are made with 10 gauge 409, pretty standard for that grade I believe. I'm burning one of the gassifiers right now. I does well but I believe for your money the HE models are the way to go unless a little smoke is a problem.

From the research I have done, it sounds like the gasifier is more efficient and uses less wood.  The local Heatmaster dealer says he can install one of the SS models for $7000.....that's everything, labor included.  Sounds kind of cheap to me and I know you usually get what you pay for......

Well, it depends on which model you are looking at. It doesn't sound like a bad price. My prices are listed on my website so that may give you something to compare to. I know Heat Master does say that the G200 gassifier does burn less but I have burned most of then and the MF5000 comes pretty close. When I get another stove I'm most likely going with the HE model.

Smakman,
Stay away from Heatmaster at all costs! They are poor units and the company and warranty are horrible. There are lots of good units out there and this is not one of them in my opinion and I owned one for one terrible winter and it was enough to convince me.

I see a lot of you complaining about how much wood you use  but a lot of that  depends on the type of wood you are burning and how much insulation you have in your house. Before you cut down someones wood burn maybe you should look at that first. I heat two homes  with mine  around 5300 sqf and i fill it once a day

Treadyw there's no complaints here about wood consumption and you can go further like where someone lives and what temp they like their house at.So what kind of stove ya running? sounds like you have her running good.

I doubt he's even a valid person, he's never made a post on here that wasn't bashing headmaster, could be a competitor..

His stove reportedly went out 73 times then suddenly burst into flames and burned to the ground

Steve,
Scott got it about right,my pos heatmaster actually went out on 66 different occasions that i documented and then yes it caught on fire rendering it totally inoperable. It did not burn to the ground although that would have been fine with me. I have long said that I felt the unit was a lemon and would have gladly accepted a replacement and tried it again but it was the local dealer and the mfgr that my real beef was and is with. The local guy was an absolute dolt as far as the installation and these clowns in Canada where this pile of junk was made were total jackasses as well. Bottom line I had to take the local clod to small claims court where I was awarded a judgement and then he promptly filed bankruptcy. So I am out $6000 to these jerks so if you think I am bitter you are correct and will let everyone know what my experience was with these guys. BTW I had a Heatmor for 18 years till it finally rusted and had zero problems during that time and now have a Woodmaster ,going into year 2 with it and zero problems.

I had the mf5000. I have no idea what caused the fire but I do know it was lucky I was home at the time or it could have been disasterous. We had no snow at the time and lots of dry grass, woods. 3/29/10. I do know that the thing had gobs of creosote dripping out of the ash pan area and I was burning bone dry jack pine firewood. The dork from the company later told me the units do not burn jack pine. I have witness' to this. Unreal. Worst company I have ever dealt with.
