General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / New Forum Layout
« on: May 09, 2015, 10:41:40 AM »
Greetings Forum Members!

You will see that we are working on a slightly revised forum layout.  We are separating manufacturers into two classifications - those who offer EPA-Certified OWBs and those who do not.  We have also added a few of the EPA-certified brands found on the EPA Burnwise list of hydronic heaters.

Note that for those manufacturers who still sell traditional furnaces, if they offer an EPA-certified furnace, they will be included in the EPA-Certified section, and all comments relating to their traditional furnaces will follow to the new section.

Please let us know of any comments you may have.  We will continue to make further improvements to the site as this industry evolves.  This is certainly an interesting time to be part of this industry!

Regards,
The OWFI Team

Site Suggestions / Spam Taken Care Of
« on: November 16, 2012, 10:55:32 PM »
As many of you noticed, some sort of spam bot hacked into the site today.  We got right on it and have been working on it for hours now.  We now have it all cleared off and should be ok now.  Our sincerest apologies to Cooch who suffered a fatal blow in this mess - one of my guys accidentally deleted his account along with many of the spambots.  It was unfortunately irreversible.  If anyone knows Cooch, please extend our apologies to him and invite him back!

We have increased the security levels and this should take care of future spammers, but we will remain vigilant.

Thanks to all of you for making this the premier site for outdoor wood furnace information.  We have an enormous membership and thanks to all of you, the information here is incredibly useful.  We have many new members each day finding us and realizing the amazing collective knowledge you all have.  We will continue to support you in every way possible!

General Discussion / Greetings
« on: February 10, 2012, 08:14:49 AM »
Just a quick note to say hello.  This is a temporary post that I will take down after a few weeks because I should not be the focus of attention - it is YOU the members of this forum who need to be the focus of attention here.  Anyway, I have seen a few posts with questions about the new owner and figured I should introduce myself.

Why did I buy this site?  Two reasons.  First, I have started a business owning and operating forums.  I believe that being able to put problems out in the open enables people.  It enables us as customers of products to be able to learn, solve problems, and vent a little when necessary.  I am a big believer in free speech and I own a few other forums and believe that they will be a big part of our future.

Second, I also believe that the OWB business is pretty cool.  I own one that was manufactured in another country (not US), but I am not going to endorse or bash them.  In case you are wondering, it is NOT a Wood Doctor, and I am not affiliated with them at all.  Say what you wish about them.  I have no agenda to help or damage them.

I was actually hoping that Phin would not say anything to you until several weeks or months after the exchange.  I wanted to prove to everyone that absolutely nothing was going to change.  One year from now, I am sure you will all agree that the site will have only improved.

Regarding moderators, I am looking for a few volunteers.  I saw one post from a member that did not think it would be appropriate for a dealer to be a moderator...perhaps we should take turns and then vote?  Let me know your thoughts and we can try lots of things.  Phin says that there are some spammers who need to be addressed and I will do my best to work on that.  I have a friend who has agreed to help me with this business.  He is going through a divorce and will have need of some income for his help so I may consider putting a few ads on the site...it will not be like arboristsite so you won't need your sunglasses when you login.  If you have any objections to this, feel free to contact me.
