Title: Shaver out of business??
Post by: jimr on October 24, 2016, 01:19:36 PM
If Shaver is out of business does it make sense to bother with the water sample that I purchased for the next 5 years for the warranty . I don't expect them to stand by any thing that should fail so why mess with it.

I wonder why they changed their name?

HondaRacer..Shaver is prolly or has prolly restructured the company.  Frankly, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.  My "NASA APPROVED RUST BLOCKER would have been five years old last November and due for a refresh.  Last March/April I discovered a leak and the dern furnace would have been only five years old in November 2016...damn thing didn't even make it five years!!!!  :bash:

In the past I had praised Shaver while everyone else was putting them down, well I praise no longer.  I HAVE a Shaver Pro Series 250 that WILL be going up for sale come Spring.  It will have the repairs done to iit.  I'ts already had many modifications made to it to make it perform BETTER than when it left the back woods factory.  If there is anyone in the North East Wisconsin area looking for a wood boiler, I will have one for sale at $2700.

I'm looking forward to buying and burying new pex line and getting my new Natures Comfort 275G lit off come November 2017!!

Luggy.

U should enjoy the nc275g.   They are well made simple and efficient.  I've had mine 2 winters without having to touch it.  Put it wood, close the door.  I have found a few tricks to get longer burn times too.  On days above 25 degrees a 24 hour burn is no problem.

Just out of curiosity it looks like msrp is $8500 on the 275g. You can get into a well made gasser for around that price, why not cut your wood in half and lose the excess smoke?

That's msrp tho.  I bet he can get that for 6 or less.  I got my 250 for 5500 and NC even added the 275 overhead air control to it for me for an extra 250.  Brand new shipped to my door 6k when msrp was over 7 at the time.

$8500 is MSRP for a coal burner. Wood models were cheaper.  Lugnut got a wood model before the cutoff.
He did get a good deal on it. I did try talking him into a G200 instead but he wanted a conventional.

If you got an ncb250 for that price, it must have been some special deal. I can tell you if it happened very often and dealers found out about it, they wouldn't have any dealers anymore.

Would u like a receipt for proof? I still have it.  Speaking of dealers I don't think ncb does have any dealers anymore.

Here it is. Can see retail and stove price I paid.  Sorry it's been 2 years since I looked at that. 5900 was the final price of the stove brand new plus tax.

No, I believe you got the deal. I just don't think they did it too often. They do still have some dealers.

It kind of makes me a little sad that the government can crush a company like this.  I hope they can hang in there!  I really do like my NC, simple and uncluttered. I really want a gasser tho just for the fact that I won't have the smoke or the wood usage but the wife is about 50/50 with me trading up.

I didn't want you to think I was blowing smoke RSI.  Ur a good guy and have been very kind and helpful towards me and I appreciate it.

Natures Comfort also has a gasser, although the bottom of it is little cluttered, interesting concept though, I’ve seen several homemade gassers that used the same thing.

I have seen it running in person.  One of the first gt6000s they released.  Definitely an upgrade from the 220 gasser.  Just don't know how well it would hold up.

Yah, while at first glance the bottom of em are pretty neat, if all that firebrick ever goes bad the average homeowner isn’t going to have any fun at all replacing it.

This is why I need a gasser!!! I know a lot of that is steam my yard light reflects off but still looks like a crazy amount of smoke at night. During the day there isn't much but still visible.

You’ll get the same with a gasser with certain environmental conditions but it will be just steam or condensation. Might actually have a little smoke after filling with fresh wood but that doesn’t last long. Ninety percent of the time what I think is a little smoke will have practically no to very little odor.
