General Discussion / Re: Propane

What are you guys paying for rent that it's worthwhile to spend $500-1000 on a used tank? I could keep mine 50 years and not be ahead of that yet. I have 2 different companies and one is $10/yr while the other is $11/yr. One place had an owned tank when I bought it and the only place I could get to fill it was considerably higher than the place I ended up renting the tank from. Like 50% more per gallon. Was a no brainer for me

I have two 100 gallon tanks. I have to rent one for around 90 a year. I mainly have it for the generac and cooking and  pay the minimum unless I have a big power outage. The minimum works out to about $7.00 a gallon but that doesn't apply to two hundred gallons.

That's cheap for a tank. In NE PA the only ones I can find are $1000 for a 500 gallon refurb and $1600 for a new one. My tank rental is getting ridicules.

I didn't know that the majority of wood boiler users were conservative. Most I know are independent but then again it'd be the last topic I'd waste my time talking with them about.  I'm not putting any faith in trump to roll back much of any regs. Politicians only give the illusion they roll anything back.

We didn't have life skills classes we had life.  Many times that came with a kick in the ass, life skilllesson learned.

I've created many train wrecks in my life, I'm calling myself an engineer now......

Kids in their lower twenties having to take "life skills" classes.  WTF is that.  You can't even do your laundry  and so on.  We have folks around here that learn and do great work. Most of those don't speak English well but they can figure stuff out.  Unfortunately those who want and will do some of that skilled laborer aren't in vogue now........

Boy he government has truly hurt the auto industry with there guidelines, especially on diesel pickups.

I had my new 2016 Duramax tuned and exhaust gutted yesterday, the difference is unbelievable.
They say it adds 150 horse, you know it when your foot hits the floorboards now.

I've wanted to replace my 06 max with a new one but not a big fan of all that emissions stuff. If I gutted in PA not sure it'd make it through its first inspection. Did you shut off the urea?

I have the same tuner in my 07, it made that  a totally different truck also.   No more urea.

Nice

General Discussion / Re: Black Ants

After I built my pole barn I started dumping wood about 75' from it, maybe 20 cord of rounds. One day I was in the pole barn and noticed the pressure treated 6x6's had holes in them. The ants were everywhere doing damage and they came from that wood. I got on amazon and ordered two different baits, sugar and then protein I think. After a month no more ants.  It's said they will branch out a about 300 feet from their nest and do damage.

Now they go in the stove no matter how slow they move. I have about 40 cord stacked and bait the piles every year. I read they don't eat the wood, they do it to make nests.

I was always told to elevate it so air could circulate and dry underneath, pallets. At least that's what I do, carpenter ants I poison.

Yeah, I'm thinking trump doesn't view things like most Americans do. Hard to do that when you lived a life of wealth.

Not trump on this one but a senator from North Carolina. Doesn’t repeal the EPA law but instead it says SOP will be that said law was never enacted. Indiana has their own so may still be gassers only in the Hoosier state.

I believe the title of the act will spell its doom. It amazes me the time wasted by public servants doing things for no legitimate purpose.  Also the sheeple who actually believe it will go somewhere. Obamacare anyone.......

In my no good opinion, coal was on its way out and trump isn't bringing it back. You can't raise the price of NG to make it competitive. At least in pa. it's losing lots of jobs. Capitalism is killing coal with a nice distraction of blaming the EPA. The NG industry is laughing all the way to the bank.  When I was young we'd haul pallets of lime on the ice to try and neutralize acid rain.  Fishing went bad, getting better every year now though. I might be a little more sympathetic to the EPA on coal, not my wood burner though.....

I don't have faith in pruit , with our legal system I can't see any changes in the near future and I can't see anyone caring about the small percentage of us.

Central Boiler / Re: Heat shield on 6048
« on: February 07, 2017, 03:07:00 PM »
I keep the wood maybe 10 inches to a foot back. It's warped into the stove, so the hitting the door with wood wouldn't be correct. I don't beat it closed but if I did it'd be flat... Probably gets red hot and then sucks into the stove with the draft. The one behind it is fine.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully the bolts will come off easy.

Central Boiler / Heat shield on 6048
« on: January 30, 2017, 08:39:53 AM »
I have a cb 6048 and one of the two heat shields on the door is way warped and has a hole burned through it. The one behind it is fine. I was just going to plasma cut a piece of steel and replace it. Does anyone know if it's some special steel they use on the door heat shields?  I need to move my fire a little further back I guess.

Thank you

Government seems to put honest hard working people in their cross hairs. These are the people that keep this country going. Get out of their way and let them prosper.

Agreed. It doesn't seem to much matter what party is in charge either.  No one seems to put the worker first instead it gets hijacked by extremists on either side. Don't like guns don't buy one don't like abortion don't get one and so on but shut up already. Whatever happened to choice.
