G200 loading door gasket replacement
« on: September 17, 2017, 08:43:11 AM »

I just ordered 8 feet of 1 inch regular rope gasket. Has anyone replaced theirs and gone with just gasket exposed or did you spread the high temp silicone over it like it comes from the factory? I developed the drool last year from the bottom of the door and no amount of adjustment would stop it. You could see the place on the gasket that was sucked in s little more than the rest of the gasket at the bottom. I figured it was time to replace the gasket.

I had something similar, pull the lower bolt in the handle and check how long it is, mine was long enough when the silicone compressed it cut it. I took a disc cutter and took 3/16” off.

I had a piece of bark stuck on the door flange, once before as well, cleaned it off and the silicone gradually expanded again.

The problem area is about 3 inches long, it is on the door latch side but it is about 4 inches in from the corner.

I replaced my G200 gasket this summer. It leaked right from the get go and I could not get it to stop either. It was also on the bottom near the handle bolt. I don't remember looking at the bolt when I had it apart and don't think I want to take it out now?

I thoroughly removed and cleaned the door channel then coated the new rope seal with the high temp caulk. Then I laid it in a bed of the caulk in the door channel (making sure to keep the ends on top) finishing it off by filling the channel with the high temp caulk and striking it off flush. I haven't repositioned the door yet but I will keep it centered in the channel and say a prayer for a good seal.

How much high temp chaulk did you use to do the whole job? I assume after setting the gasket in the channel you went around the perimeter with a thick bead and then came back around with a putty knife or something similar to even it out.

I had 2 tubes if I remember correctly and used just about all of it. After thoroughly cleaning the channel I wiped it all out with Brake clean using clean rags and let it dry before I started with the silicone.

I put on vinyl gloves to coat the gasket with the silicone prior to laying it in the caulk in the channel. Yes, then I filled the entire channel and struck it off with a large putty knife.

I hope I can get it squared up and a good seal before I fire it up.

Is that the 600° rated stuff? I think the factory uses Nuflex 30213

It says 2000 degree rated. I find that hard to believe though....

The 2000° stuff is mortar, not silicone. It looks like Rutland makes both 500°F and 600°F silicone.
The Nuflex is 600°F.

We have an outlet selling 600 degree silicone, not sure the brand, but it gets gooie when it's hot.  Nuflex is far better for door gasket.

The silicone I used came right from Heatmaster as did the gasket.
