Equipment / Jonsered chainsaws
« on: March 16, 2014, 08:00:00 PM »
Has anyone ever used one of these? I saw them in Tractor Supply today. They looked really nice and felt really good in my hands. Much better than the similar priced Sthils over at Farm & Home, which felt "plasticy" even to a Poulan Pro owner. Apparently they are a branch of Husqvarna, but are priced similar, so I don't understand the marketing of them. That's besides the point. Just wanted to get some opinions on them.

Earth Outdoor Wood Furnaces / Earth-Stack Emission Control
« on: February 21, 2014, 04:53:20 PM »
Does anyone have one, or seen them work in person? I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it looks like a pre-heated catalytic converter. If it works near as well as they claim; this seems like a legit way of lowering emissions. Without making the price of OWBs skyrocket, or making everyone buy gassers, this seems like a great way to keep the EPA happy. But that's only if it works.

Aqua-Therm / Looking at parts
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:27:20 PM »
While I'm kind of stuck right now on my restoration project, I've been shopping around for parts. I noticed that the fans for Aqua-Therms are quite a bit higher than the other owb brands. What is the reason for this? Could I use a fan for another boiler? Also, can an air scoop go bad?

Aqua-Therm / Old Aqua Therm 140
« on: January 28, 2014, 05:46:22 PM »
Someone I know has an old Aqua-Therm 140 stove that he wants to get rid of.  The stove is super rusty and will most likely end up at a salvage yard, but he's willing to give it away, and I'm willing to make the 10 min drive to pick it up. Now saying that, can someone give me some info on these stoves and or how to get some of the rust out of the water jacket? I know some about owb's but really nothing about Aqua-Therms.

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Burn Times
« on: January 23, 2014, 04:51:40 PM »
On the website they claim 15-18 hr burn times. I'm considering buying a 6000 model and was wondering what the users are getting.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Sub $5000 OWBs
« on: January 11, 2014, 08:34:40 PM »
I'm new to the OWB world, and don't yet have one. I have grown tired of spending 1200-1500 a winter on propane, and have begun to research the boiler market. I have found a few boilers that would most likely fit my need in the <$5000 range. I'm currently considering either an Earth Rancher or a Wood Boiler standard. I'm sure there are more out there but these are the ones that have stuck in my mind. I was hoping to get some pros and cons on both set ups, or if there is something else that may better suit me. I live in an aprox 50x25 double wide and may eventually heat a 16x32 shed. I will also probably heat my dhw with this system.
 Thank you.
