How long have you owned a Hawken?
« on: August 24, 2014, 02:48:37 PM »

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 2005 Wood Doctor WD14000 to a new Hawken HE2100 or a Ridgewood 7500.

I'm curious how long you have owned a Hawken. Also the pro's and con's or any issues you may have had.

Thank You

I don't know much about either stove but I don't think I've seen a negative review of Ridgewood and they are probably half the price.  Look through the individual sections for each brand on the sight.  I believe I've seen some posts from a few unhappy Hawken customers.  Again, I don't know much about them this is just from reading on this site.

I don't get on here much this time of year. This will be my 8th season with my Hawken. I am happy with it. So far I haven't had to do anything to it, and I mean NOTHING! I send my water sample in once in the spring, clean out the ashes and throw a bucket on the chimney. Mine is the he1000 which is the same as the 1100 only mine is stainless. I heat a large house(3000 sq ft), dhw, and a good sized garage. Load it half full every 12 hours most of the winter. Even last winter with a full load I could make it 12 to 14 hours even at -20.  I would buy another Hawken. I have never seen a ridge wood in person but guys seem to like them. For the price they seem hard to beat. After 2015 I think Hawken will still be around, not sure about ridge wood, but I could honestly care less about service after the sale. Hope this helps, pm me if you have any questions that way my email will let me know there is a post here.

I have had my Hawken HE-2100 for just over a month now and it is my first foray into the OWF arena.  Being a novice it has been easy to operate and as posted by woodman, I dont have to do anything but add wood.  Currently I am filling half full once a day to heat 2800 sq ft home with DHW. I live in central Michigan so temps have been mild and I am sure I will use more wood with colder temps.  Not much time in the saddle but very happy with it thus far.  Message me for any questions.

I bought the 7500 Ridgewood. Nothing fancy and half the price of the Hawken. Also had a realistic warranty. My thoughts are that they all burn wood , heat water, and will  ALL eventually leak.

Thank you for your imput

I have had a Global Hydronics stove for almost 12 years with no major problems.  I think they are about the same as Hawken, stainless steel, 300 gallon capacity.  I load it twice a day not even half full and it heats about 2000 sq. feet house.  Been very happy with mine.
