General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: is there a reliable solenoid

I've had my selonoid hang up before. One did burn up too. I sprayed some of that white lithium grease on it and never had any more problems.

So his thermostat is a Heat pump Stat? If it is it should be capable of running two different sources. If you don't have anymore wires, you may need to run a new wire to the stat. maybe wiring gurus will chime in. what I was thinking was have another wire from the Y terminal at the thermostat go to the G terminal at the furnace to control the fan for the boiler. Keep all the rest of the wiring the same. If he wanted to just use the furnace could put the thermostat in emergency heat. Use it like a heat pump stat? What do you guys think? Mine is a heat pump stat, I wired mine like that, but I put a switch at my indoor unit to go back to heat pump if I need to.

Portage & Main / Re: Found another use for my P&M Boiler

I made some deer bologna in my oven recently. Was pondering about putting it in my boiler to smoke a while. Might be something I try next year.

Mine is setup up on demand this year. Ran pump 24/7 last year. I have noticed a considerably less amount of wood usage so far. I have a hot water coil that is in my boiler for my DHW, so I don't have a plate exchanger that I need to circulate water all the time to heat hot water. To do it this way I have two pumps, one that does run all the time to circ. water at boiler, then another pump for my heat exchanger that comes on when call for heat. And to keep return temps happy I have a 30 plate installed at boiler. Works Great never seen return temps below 160. Run 185/175.

Sweet. Hate to see the cost of that!

Wrap the copper pipe with black electrical tape on the copper where u want to take the temp. You should be a better reading.

Legend / Re: Warped plate on inside of door

My plate is also warped. I have the 4135 it did it the first season. The air still blows in ok tho. I dont know if a thicker plate would have been better or not. But as for operation of the stove i see no problem. Fired mine up a couple weeks ago just to check things out. One thing i did tho this year i installed a 200 degree cut off sensor on my hot line leaving the stove. I noticed last year my aquastat did not shut off at my cut off temp one time and it got a little hot. Waiting for it too get cold enough to fire err back up.

I hooked mine hot to the top. Suspose to get better heat transfer that way. Just like a plate exchanger, you want opposite flow for maximum transfer. Your exchanger is horizontal right?

I have the maverick wireless set up on mine. Works great.  Make sure the probes are on copper or some kind of metal. It will not read correct on pex. Batteries on mine last about 6 months. Also has Hi and low alert.
