Atv with tracks?
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:24:05 PM »

Anyone use tracks on their atv instead of the tires?  If so how's it work in deep snow pulling a trailer of firewood?

High priced, short life, very poorly designed and put together are the things that I'm told by those that have them and fix them.

As for actually accomplishing anything worthwhile, that would depend on your definition of accomplishment, but myself I'd rather have tires and go work when your not fighting the snow and cold and don't need the tracks would be my vote.

I have both atv's and utv's, they are used to haul people and stuff around, not move wood or logs with.

One of my younger brothers has one with the track system.  He primarily uses it to get into the wood to check on his trees and lines during sugaring season (coming soon) and he loves it.  He says it beats trying to walk through snow hip deep to look things over.  He does not use it for hauling, that's job belongs to the tractor.  Roger

I have tracks on my 09 Grizzly 550 efi, I pull a drag and groom trails on my land and neighbors, about 7-9 miles, love the tracks.
I have went thru a area that was drifted over and snow was up to headlights and never stopped but I was regretting doing it till I was out as getting stuck would be awe full. They are heavy and do not roll easy and are 38% slower so they use fuel, 10-12 miles before low fuel, they do not turn sharp or good on hardpack.
But I wouldn't sell them and put them on every year in fall off in spring

Hauling loads? I have no idea. Altogether? Excellent idea. Goes over almost anything.
