I shure was hoping to make a dent in a thinning/ firewood project I had planned, but with all the snow its shure going to make it harder.

Had a forester walk the property for a management plan last month
for me too get it where it should be I will have to remove half the trees, that's a lot of firewood.

We are working on a similar project. 8 pickup loads out and we've barely made a dent in what was already down. One tree filled 4 trucks and the other half is still standing.

 No firewood shortage here.

I am in the same boat, we dealing with our local conservation agency and looking at replanting  some 12 to 18 thousand trees in the spring of 2016. I think I can pretty much clear cut everything in my ravine

I talked with the Forester today, he is going to come by in the spring to mark everything that "should" be cut. Now if it ever stops snowing, four feet in a week is kinda rediculous.

Got my report back last week from the forester, he recommends a 40% cut on the property.
By my calculations that would be roughly 200 cord.
If I could get into the woods I might cut some.

Getting something done now, skidder is not mine, i made a deal with a neighbor if he cuts the big ugly stuff he can have it, but he needed to drag me some too.

I wrapped a couple pallets with greenhouse plastic to play.

There is also 5 cord of red oak behind those pallet racks for next year.

Nice.  I process my wood the same way with pallets.  The fewer times you need to handle it the better.

How did you build your pallets so the verticals on each end stay vertical?

I'm thinking about using 4x6's for the bottom runners then a 2x6' vertical on each end, use treated decking on bottom and pieces of hog or cattle panels on the ends, would make em 4x4x4 so each would hold half a cord.

Place the pallets on four by fours so I could get the forks of the forklift or Bobcat under them easy, they'd also last longer if the 4x6's weren't on the ground.

I use a 2x6 going across the top (2of them) then screw a kleet on to the ends, width of the pallet of course, then when done that tier, when burning, you can flip it right out of the way for easier access to the next tier. Seems to be the best way I have found.

I am thinking on building some out of steel, probably 8ft long so they hold half a cord, longer lasting also.
