knocking noise
« on: November 16, 2014, 06:47:58 AM »

I fired up my stove yesterday after a long summer of upgrades to my 165.  BTW the upgrades are working great.  the Ranco is awesome.  Anyway, I noticed when the blower kicks on and the water temp starts to come back up I can hear a loud knocking noise coming from stove.  when it gets up to temp the noise stops.  it sounds like something is loose and banging inside water jacket.  has anyone ever experienced this?  stove is working great with all new insulation and the new ranco.

thanks
Adam

Could it be "steam knock" from heating water expanding?

No im heating to 170 with 7 degree differential.  last year I heated to 180 most of the year.  I remember it doing it last year the more I think about it.  its just an odd sound that's all.  last year I thought it was the hot water coil banging around but now that the coil is deleted its still doing it so its not that  :D

I get this noise too only at the front i think its from the return water not being circulated to the front of the furnace.

Turn your pump speed up and the knock will go away.
